Ive never seen an episode ever-of this show which lasted about 4 seasons--till I bought the first half of season 1-from Walmart a number of months ago. A friend of mine knew how much I was enjoying the series-so for my birthday-bought me the 3 season dvd set-from Walmart.

Mostly-the episodes ive seen are very good-love the stories, guns, cars etc. Loads of great guest stars. However--a few stories are not up to par on being excellent--but that's a given. Ive only known three tv series that I never disliked-or thought bad--any episodes from the entire series. They are: Tombstone Territory, Combat & Magnum P.I.

Robert Stack as Eliot Ness, Neville Brand as Al ''Scarface'' Capone. Abel Fernandez as Agent Youngblood, Keenan Wynn was part of the team for the first couple eps. Too many good guests to mention but-there was a plenty.

I dont remember what movie that "Canoli" line was from--but it was taken from this series. I THINK it was in the episode titled something like "Pineapple King?"

Stack carried a Colt Police revolver and was pretty fast in shootouts.

Id post pics but, this stinking over-used library computer aint allowing it.

It's not generally known, but Robert Stack was a real gun fancier, and in fact was a champion shotgun shot. I recall that he wrote a column (I think it was in Guns and Ammo) on shotgun shooting. He used to hang with Clark Gable when he was younger, and they shot together often.

His column was in GUN WORLD magazine, early-mid'60s, I think. I never had much of an interest in shotguns, but may have read his column because he was Eliot Ness.

GUN WORLD was actually a pretty good magazine in that era, but occasionally had some strange, off-beat article, the likes of which you would not see in other publications ( and that was okay).

This is why I like OTA TV."Decades" Tv has what they call "The Binge" every weekend where they show classic episodes from various old shows. This past weekend was "The Untouchables".

"Heroes and Icons" is another great channel...
12 'O'Clock High...Combat...Superman...Black Sheep Squadron...Cheyenne...Have Gun Will Travel and Rawhide to name just a few.

The pilot was excellent......

...and the show itself was very good. It was amazing how many people guest starred as villains and gangster's girlfriends. One time the opening shot just showed a guy's mouth talking into a telephone. I said, "That's Frank Sutton!" (Gomer Pyle USMC)

I learned some things from the show that I'd never heard of. Like the episode with the 'Ginger Jake'. It was a 'medicine' that contained a lot of alcohol but the formula was changed to keep it from being drinkable. Two guys consulted a chemist to find a substitute that would fool the tests, but still be drinkable. The chemist didn't know what they wanted to use it for and recommended tricresyl phosphate, which was a neurotoxin which permanently crippled a lot of people. People who drank it and walked would eventually cause their feet to droop when they walked, causing a 'toe-heel' gait known as 'jake walk'.

Stack parodying his tough-guy persona in the movie 'Airplane' along with Leslie Nielsen and Lloyd Bridges was more than funny. It was HILARIOUS!!!:D:D:D

I didn't like it in "The HIgh and the MIghty" where John Wayne had to slap around a chicken Robert Stack to get him to focus on flying.

I never missed this show as a kid! This show and Combat is what started my love and interest in the Thompson Sub Machine gun! ;)
Never missed an episode of either show and have them all on DVD, the one thing I never acquired though was my Thompson! :(

On a side note, Today in history the real Eliot Ness died at the age of 54 in 1957. He passed in the small town of Coudersport Pennsylvania
Sad to say at this point in his life he became somewhat of an unknown and was having hard times keeping a job.
Unfortunately it wasn't until after Oscar Fraley published his book about him and it was after his death that he became known again.
The idea for the book came over drinks in a bar and a friend pumped Ness to tell stories from his Untouchable days. After that night Ness and Fraley got together to write the book.

I've never watched any of the TV show, but even though I'm generally not a Brian de Palma or Costner fan, I love the movie. Historically, it's not exactly how it all went down with Capone, but it's sure fun to watch. One of my favorite scenes: The Odessa steps shootout.
