2004 PC1911 - What a Joy!

I picked this up several months ago and took some pictures for the fine folks here to enjoy. It's not a model that pops up in these threads too often. I had a WTB thread on my local interweb and the original owner of this fine specimen sent me a message, followed with some history, pictures and a very reasonable price. I was ready to pay rather quickly after I saw it in person when we met at my FFL.

I was really surprised at how nicely fitted and finished it is. The Performance Center staff did a wonderful job and took pride in the effort they put into it. It is very evident, first class all the way. Kudos to S&W!

This is my second 1911. I recently inquired here about a billboard commander model that I'm going to pass on for the moment since this is the one I will want to enjoy on range days.

I don't know a lot about it. Per S&W it dates to 2004 and came with everything original including the cardboard shipper. It would be nice to know how many units were made? I know they made this in a stainless version as well.

Nice. I have an E series and love it. Better than the Colt, SA loaded, RO (all long gone) and my SIG nightmare.

Am convinced these 1911s are some of the best out there

I have it stainless brother #17021.

My wife bought it for me in April, 2005.
MSRP was $2,209 and she paid $1,419 shipped.

I shot it in IDPA CDP for a number of years.
It shoots very well.

I'm sure you'll enjoy yours.

The early models of the PC1911 vs the PC1911 of today is completely different. You had pistolsmiths for the early model and now you have people putting parts into pistols. I have said it once and I will say it again. If you want a Performance Center pistol buy a early anything.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but one of these fine early PC 1911s (JMB1XXX) is up for sale in town, and the owner wants $1700. Fair price????? From what i understand, they are not super rare, but people are holding on to them.

It looks like 03Fatboy's in every way except the trigger is stainless. It has the alum PC ribbed carry case.

The newer model with the cuts in the slide. I am not impressed with them at all. The older 1911 like is pictured her are the ones to own.

In good shape with not a lot of use, yes, it's a fair price - not a bargain. The guns themselves are the bargain. Try buying one that works as well, has the same features, and is as accurate for less money. Bottom line - yes, it's a do-able price for a gun in good shape. As to the holding on to them thing, I can assure you, mine is in no danger of needing a new home.

They're nice guns but I just can't get over an external extractor on a 1911.

And 1700 is high, it'd sit on GB for a coons age for that price. 14-15 max.

I'm thinking $1,700 is high as well. I honestly would not be interested in it for that price. I'm going to grease the rails and put in a fresh recoil spring tomorrow. Hopefully I can get to the range tomorrow as well or next week. I may be a believer after I shoot it!!!

I don't know much about prices but will say this-- "If you can find a better .45 - and one that will retain its value as well - for less money, buy it!" I'm not holding my breath on that one, but of course such judgments are always subjective.

As for the non-Browning type extractor... blah, blah, blah.

Per S&W it dates to 2004...

The "4149" on the box's label is the mfd. date, May, 28, 2004.
