Pride and respect for our flag and country...

The NFL is sending mixed messages. They would not allow the Cowboys to wear stickers on their helmets in support of the Dallas police department (and fallen officer) because it was too political, yet they are allowing their players to take a knee and supporting them in their political stance. It should be all or nothing, and I personally feel it should be nothing. If the players want to take action on their own time and protest, that is their right. I don't want to see politics during a game or in the halftime entertainment.

It was in the news recently that a youth football team took the knee so it is trickling down.

The lack of respect that is evident everywhere these days is really alarming and disheartening. I feel some of these people should travel the world and see how the "freedoms" they take for granted like "free speech" are restricted in other countries. Maybe they would have more respect for our flag and country.

If this indignation carries over to the Olympics my TV is going in the trash.
I concur...

I also sit and smile at the knees being taken in London for the US National Anthem and then rising for the Union Jack and God Save the Queen. Do the athletes that speak of being "oppressed" understand it was the USA that freed their ancestors and that it was under The Union Jack that their ancestors were sailed to America? This just shows me how ignorant this has all become.

Cowboys wore patches honoring the Dallas Police Officers killed while defending protesters. NFL stopped this support. Another example of double standard. Our people, all, should honor our freedom and respect our Anthem and our Flag. Not to do so is not in protest but due to historical ignorance of what Americans have sacrificed to preserve freedom.

To everyone who is getting bent over this:

You are giving them exactly what they want.

They want attention but they don't want declining attendance and viewship and that's what is happening. Not a snowflake either but a snowball rolling down hill gaining size all the time. Hit em in the wallet and watch em wail.

As far as sports heroes go, I really respect and admire Rick Monday.

The only reason they have the capability of the statements they are making due to the first amendment is because of our FLAG, which represents our country, our constitution, our freedom. Anyone who disrespects our flag disrespects our entire country and should not be allowed to play whatever sport they represent, and any team owner that allows it to continue should have his franchise stripped from him.

How do you figure that??
Not watching hurts the NFL in the pocket book.
I am informing the advertisers of the games where the players "Do there thing." that I will not buy there products till the players stop such action...:D
That will change things fast if enough people do that.:)

Imagine a couple of Russian players in the NHL did this? Yes you could say that is their right, but we all know very well all hell would break loose.

I'm kinda surprised this thread is still here, but glad it is.

I'm not a fan, haven't been for years, but I still want to do my part to try to financially knock some sense into the NFL.

I'm not buying from the sponsors with one exception-Duracell. And if I find a brand as good (Energizer is not), I'll dump them, too.

I wish I had a list of emails for the sponsors as it is a pain to try to find the right one to email my lack of financial support or interest in their product.

I've ben around this forum for a while and remember several post before all of this happened. Those post were about people in the stands at sports events not standing for the anthem.

I thought then that those people were idiots. Like most here thought.

I can't say what I think about the current crop of people doing it for protest. Protest! ???

They took the confederate battle flag away and several other symbols from history and it looks like now they have their sight on old glory.

Sad.

I think politics and sport are two different things for a reason.

This is a good point.

As a society, we hold up these sports figures and actors, and musicians. We appreciate their talent. The problem is it goes to their heads. Just because they make money because of a talent doesn't make them important politically.

They should play the game, act in the movies, sing the song, and keep their opinions to themselves, and be thankful they have what they have.

I respect the flag, all who have defended it, and for the constitution it represents, including all the amendments, not just the second.

If we are to have a full and honest discussion on the respect for the flag we need to include the following.

(i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.
(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.

Per US code.

Remember, In the recent catastrophes we've watched on the news first responders make special efforts to save the flag.

For those that served and serve. IT MEENS SOMETHING that these protesters (???) have no clue about and never in their sorry minds will understand.

Freedom is a double edged knife. Handle with caution.

Really? Jackie Robinson, Jim Brown, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Muhammad Ali, Billy Jean King, Arthur Ash, Jack Kemp, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, and last but not least Ronald Reagan, to name a few may disagree with you.
