Armed

What percentage of board members are always armed?
The only correct answer here is 0%. It's simply impossible to be armed (in this context I'm taking "armed" to mean that a gun is being carried) 100% of the time. No one takes a shower with their pistol belt on.

Old Cop said it best, "Almost 100%, if I have pants on, there's a gun in the pocket." This is at least a reasonable statement. But I'll bet it's still not completely accurate.

I think it's more correct to say that you carry whenever legal. Of course no one here carries into a post office or federal court house.

In the house or yard during daylight hours, typically I'm not armed (people in my neighborhood don't get robbed while mowing the yard). However, I am armed if outside after dark.

Leaving my property, I am armed. Never carry in prohibited locations.

I carry a pocket pistol because I can have it on my person at almost all times. I never go outside without it, and have it on the night table when sleeping or dressing. When sitting around the house I take it with all the time and put it on a table or other place I can rest it and reach it quickly. Of course, as someone noted above, I do not take in the shower. Instead I set it on the toilet seat lid which I can reach from inside the shower.

For me the only time I will not have the gun on or near me is when I am dead.

I carry when legal. In MA that means I don't get to walk around the house in my underwear unless I lock up the gun or carry it in my hand. Either one is more trouble than putting on a pair of shorts.

It is quite a burden to have to wear shorts in my own house, but being deprived of my own private nudist camp is still better than living in New Jersey or Hawaii. Since this is not a poltical forum, I will refrain from commenting on California, even though MA is only a little better.

Always except when at a public school function that my child is participating in. Otherwise 100% of the time. That's why I secured my VA CCW.

Around the house I don't go armed, I have plenty of guns there within easy grasp. When I leave the house I'm always armed. I do however live in a rural area were a ambush would be difficult, if I live in the city or suburb's I might take a different approach.

Sounds like you need to find another place to live.

Why would you put up with that ****?

It’s Kali...a thief has a reasonable expectation that the average citizen isn’t going about his daily business armed. Not so in States with reasonable carry laws. Thieves know this also and really hate being shot.

Where I live, we just don't have the crime or that fear so unless I know I am heading out, I am not carrying in or near my house. Most times both doors are wide open this time of year (72 degrees at 7PM) and the windows are left open as well, even overnight with NO fears.

2 reply's from pacific northwest- both, never except going to range/hunting? So No one carries outside , Or inside their home in Or/Wa? Taking a firearm to the range is going to the range, not "carrying"
Do you expect some one else to be responsible for your safety? The Police? Or has it become a Utopia free of Crime? Just Curious? Be Safe,

I have at least one gun on me all the time. More than one at work.

Off duty I always have a gun. Until yesterday. I have an eye injury to my dominant eye. Now I can barely read the second line on the eye chart. Can’t even see my gun sights when held out to arms length. So until that heals, I feel carrying a gun is more of a danger to everyone else and not responsible for me to carry. So for the next few days/week(s) it takes to heal, it will be just a knife. It feels strange not to have a gun.

As a native of the PNW, I thought I'd better weigh in!

If I'm wearing pants, there's a holster on my belt. When I leave the house, there's a gun in it. Around the house, not always. But there's always one nearby.

Hardly.
But prevention is worth a pound of cure. I have lived in many states and many big cities and in rural areas as well. I was born and raised here in Washington. Learned to shoot at an early age. Since my 20's I have always been a gun owner. I have lived in California, New York (both NY city and upstate. but had to sell my handgun there. To many hassles Still had a shotgun, which is legal) I have lived in Maine, Virginia, Utah, Montana, Michigan, and spent a considerable amount of time in other states( been to all 50) and 5 other countries. Lived in Seattle, NYC, San Francisco, Wash DC area (worked in DC), and Salt Lake City . Lived in Maryland and Virginia over 20 years. Visited most of the major cities in this great country of ours, including some considered dangerous like Miami, Chicago, DC, Detroit, LA. The only time I felt endangered enough to carry concealed was in the mid 60's in Oakland because of the riots. I had friends who lived in one of the affected areas. I simply avoid situations if possible where I might need to use a firearm. Of course I have carried as part of my Coast Guard career. For that matter I was in the weapons division on ships and shore when I was enlisted and was on the Security Force on CG Base NY for two years in the late 60's . Never had the necessity or need as an officer, except for one time when I had to disarm someone, but there were three of us and one of him and he was more scared of us than we were of him.

Anyway. I just don't feel the need. I go to the range about once, sometime twice a month just to keep my skills up.

But sure, there is crime here, some really nasty crime in some areas. I just don't go there unless I have to. At my age it's just easier to avoid bad situations.

I totally agree that avoidance is the best policy. I have lived near Philly, & NYC, lived in Chicago and will never go to any of them unarmed. I have been in situations, that being armed protected me. I found that even though I did try to avoid "bad" parts of town, trouble managed to find me. Originally from Pa, I started to carry at 21- 41 years later I still do, since I have found that even though avoidance is the best policy, living is a better one. Be Safe,

Mr.O,
What part of Fl.do you live in??You don't live in Miami, Opa Locka or cities nearby!! I've lived in Fl.for over 60yrs & just wonder where you live!
Yeah...I go armed & have been doing that for a looooong time!
Jim

In the house, no!

I don't do yard work. There's not much of a yard and my neighbor mows both our lawns. No robberies here. No break ins, car theft or section 8. There was a murder 2 years ago on my street. The first one in 30 years! Turned out to be a love triangle, jealousy!

Everything else outside the house yes!

If I'm outside the house, I am armed. Inside the house a couple of guns are always kept handy.

I am not content to trust my safety to fate and other people. Predatory threats and crime can and will show up any time, anywhere, even in 'safe' rural areas. Whether or not you feel threatened or just refuse to acknowledge it, the fact is the threat exists everywhere and is getting worse all the time. To paraphrase Pasteur - Chance favors the prepared - If you have a choice, do what you can to swing the odds in your favor.
