Ha! Same difference. I'm a man of many words.

My theory is, have on YOUR gun stocks that feel/look good to YOU! That is all that matters! I doubt that many others will be shooting your gun. Bob
Don't worry about what others think. Just go with what's right for you.![]()
Personally, I prefer magna grips. I have small hands and short fingers and they fit my hands better.
I like them on J, K, L and N frame guns
"The early early magnas, the ones that don't cover the entire grip, and stop where the medallion is, looks like they're rough."
Those aren't Magna grips, those are service grips.
I suppose my issue with rubber grips is that it takes away from the classic look drastically. I saw a model 13 with the same rubber grips, but I just wouldn't buy it without the original magna grips. I'm just looking for everyone's input on both sides. I guess I just love the classic look far more than I would want rubber grips. I buy older guns because I want something that looks old school, if I wanted something with rubber grips, I'd just buy a newer gun. I get your point though, to each their own, but that Model 15 looks awesome. I'm a very classic person though. I love TV and movies, music, cars and guns from the 40's to the 70's. I was born in the wrong decade. Still working on my time machine. I actually saw a 6 inch model 19 and 29 with magna grips and it actually looked cooler than I thought. If I got a gun over 4 inches I'd use targets though, just looks disproportionate.
I AM CONFUSED. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT "MAGNA" WAS A PROPRIETARY TERM, FOR A STYLE OF S&W GRIPS. IN THIS THREAD, I FIND THE TERM APPLIED TO GRIPS ON OTHER BRANDS OF GUNS---EVEN COLT DIAMONDBACKS ! ! !
I HAVE OWNED AND SHOT COLT REVOLVERS FOR 60 YEARS. NEVER, IN ALL THAT TIME, HAVE I EVER HEARD OF "MAGNA" USED BY THE COLT FACTORY, OR ANY COLT COLLECTORS, IN REFERENCE TO A COLT FACTORY GRIP. ITS SIMPLY NOT A COLT TERM ! ! ! (OP--PLEASE TAKE NOTE.)
I DO FAVOR MAGNAS, FOR CONCEALIBILITY, ON S&W REVOLVERS, THAT I CARRY FOR SD--BOTH WITH, AND WITHOUT TYLER-T, GRIP ADAPTERS. HERE ARE TWO EXAMPLES---MY K/L FRAME, 2 1/2", M686, WEARING A SET OF FACTORY, PC MAGNAS, AND A TYLER-T.....
ALSO PICTURED IS MY 3", M629, N FRAME, WEARING MAGNA GRIPS, RENDERED BY EAGLE, IN PRE-BAN, SAMBAR STAG.....
Nothing wrong with looks but when it comes to use Id rather have the rubber grips. Because at that point I can only see the sights. That model 13 was my first 357. I bought it 8 years ago. It came from overseas. There was maybe half a dozen at the store and this one had the original magnas. I asked for them to swap out those grips for the rubber ones on another 13. I had a feeling it would suck shooting 357 with those little, oddly shaped grips. Had I known people today throw out rubber grips I would have kept the originals. For no other reason than having an easier time selling it should I decide to. I love classic stuff. Classic cars are great. My only radio stations are classic rock...60s, 70s and probably a touch of 80s in there. Beatles, Doors, AC/DC, Queen, EL&P, Hendrix...etc.. And old guns do have a certain style and attention to detail. If money was no object I'd probably be doing nothing but practicing and carrying in a NY reload fashion a pair of Mauser C96. I think they are the coolest guns ever..BUUUUT... I don't own one. I can't afford to buy one and have it sit. I'm practical and logical about purchases. Wood may look better but I won't shoot it and if I'm not going to shoot it seriously it's a waste of money. That money can go to a lot of other things.
The model 15 I shoot occasionally because the grips absolutely suck and I have no interest in buying extra. I bought it because it was inexpensive. If guns need anything more than mags and/or ammo I have no interest in them. The 13 I shoot because it has grips that allow me to shoot it a lot. If it didn't have those grips it would just be sitting in the safe in the basement which I rarely ever open

I completly forgot about my 36. It sits in my nightstand although my nightstand gun is a Glock 19. The 36 is on the opposite side of the bed just in case. I never carried it more than around the neighborhood when walking my dog. It was easy to put in a jacket pocket but I ended up getting a 642 due to lighter weight and hammerless. The 642 I can throw in the pocket of my sweat pants or a jacket and no hammer to catch on a which happened a few times with the 36 when I got home and took it out.I hear ya, too each their own. I love carrying my Model 36's with the magnas, but that's due in part to the fact that I haven't met someone in person who carries an old revolver, let alone with stock grips. That's just me though. I rind I'm different from most people in a number of ways, but that's just who I am I guess. I'm not a huge fan of Airweight Smiths either, and it seems like a lot of people are. The only real reason I don't like them though is because I like a heavier gun. I'll probably buy a couple over time, but not my thing for the most part even though they are easier to carry. I also don't much care for new revolvers either, which a lot of people do. I bought 2 Taurus snubs, but after that I went old school and haven't turned back. Even new Smiths I don't care for, even the classic line. The new Colt Cobra looks atrocious to me. I'd take a second issue for sure over the new ones, but again I like full weight guns. I think I may be just about the only person I know own that likes full weight guns. I guess I'm just surprised at how many people don't prefer magnas, that's all. I'm surprised by it I suppose.

I like 'em. With one exception, a Model 58 shooting full house 210 gr. loads. Three cylinders was about all the fun I wanted to have.

Magnas are my favorite on a S&W revolver.
I agree with the OP that the key to learning to love magnas is gripping the gun as high as you can - I often have to back off just a bit because the hammer spur is hitting the webbing between my thumb and index finger. I may eventually transition to spurless hammers on some of my guns for that reason.
Once I started choking up on the grip, I "got" magnas. I prefer them with a t-grip, but I'm ok with just magnas.
That said, the most comfortable grip I have found are the rubber grips with wood inlays on the Ruger GP100. I started with the large size, but now have the compacts on my Wiley Clapp GP100 - either way they are fantastic. I don't know why I can't find a S&W grip that fits me as well, but magnas with a t-grip comes pretty close.
It's also one reason I bought a Super Redhawk in 44 Magnum rather than a Redhawk.
Daaaaaaaang, I see that! I love that Model 15 snub, that I beautiful!!! I have a blued one. That's one model I want both finishes of. Nice collection, glad to see you have them on all barrel lengths and frame sizes!!
Unfortunately I traded the Model 15 snub to crsides for a 5 inch Model 27 FHP gun. Just happened to still have the photo.
