I just saw an article in the news that explains why mass shooting happen in small towns. It's very simple.

Places with low crime rates, good schools and a sense of community.

These are attributes experts say make small rural and suburban towns a breeding ground for the next school shooter.

Easy access to guns and the copycat effect of disturbed suburban and small-town teenagers emulating each other, according to experts.

They go on to say that small, conservative cities where everyone knows their neighbors and almost everybody owns a gun are likely locations.

I'm really glad that I read this article. Now I know why mass shootings happen in small towns.:mad::mad:

I grew up in Phoenix when it was MUCH smaller; there was easy availability of guns then, and my high school had an indoor range where we could practice. Target shooting was a varsity sport. I used to bring M1 rifles into my first period classroom before ROTC could open the armory, returning them from weekend matches. I had my first gun at age 11.

The problem is not guns or their easy availability. The problems ARE undisciplined teenagers who were never taught responsibility or respect for others, and parents who coddle them. We used to have boundaries, and rarely dared to cross them. Blaming guns assumes that inanimate objects can have evil intent. That is called animism, and it last saw wide favor in the middle ages. Many people today, and sadly, most of our politicians, are clueless on this issue.

...I grew up in the middle of the big city...

...and there were M1 Garands on the ROTC range in the basement of our high school...

I guess the shooters are having a panic attack now as their time is running out, school should be out in a couple of weeks then where will they go to do their shooting. I know it wont be at any gunshows or a shooting range as they would be put down very quickly. Jeff

What got me was listening to a radio commentator one morning when he said "We are 25 seconds overdue for our next school shooting".

About two hours later reports about a school shooting were on every channel.

I guess there had been enough of them at that point to lend some predictability to the process.

From our rules:

UNDERSTAND this-
We WON'T change the World here, nor will we be able to fix all the ills afflicting our society.

These events break my heart, but keeping them in the spotlight doesn’t help.

If I had young children to protect, I’d worry more about them operating a motor vehicle or using drugs.
