My wife's Buick LaCrosse with 149K miles was costing us a fortune in repairs so we decided to get her a new SUV. She looked at all the brands and finally decided a Nissan Murano was what she wanted and it was about $43K with her "must have" sunroof and heated leather seats. But then we saw a brand new looking 2017 Infinity QX 50 with 17,500 miles for $23,400 so we snagged it and she loves it and finally let me drive it, and now I LOVE it! I had no idea SUVs were so fast, it will do zero to sixty in 5.3 seconds and a 13.9 quarter mile time, and a governor holds it's top speed down to 147 mph or else it would go about 160. Most of the cars when I was in high school wouldn't beat that unless they were hopped up, including the 396 Chevelle's, 400 GTO's, and 440 Challengers. Who else here owns a car that will beat 14 seconds in the quarter mile?

I do.

2017 Range Rover Sport Dynamic: 13.1
2015 Corvette Convertible, Z-51, 8-speed: 11.8
2018 H-D FXLR: likely quicker than both of the above; but someone else will be driving the bike.

Be safe.

PS: I much prefer handling ove straight line speed. All three of the rides handle extremely well.

PPS: My 2014 Jeep Wrangler does not go fast or handle well but sure is FUN to drive...particularly with the top off.

i used to have some very fast cars, my first car was a 1962 chevy with a 66 chevelle 396 engine swap. it could beat most of the factory muscle cars of those times, the late 60s. my second car was a 1968 z28 camaro that was fast that i referred to as an f-16 on 4 wheels after various internal and external mods. it was my every day driver that i drove to work and everywhere else and ran low to mid 11s with open headers. that time period was 1970-1971, i sold it when i was drafted in 71.

but we're talking a whole nother animal now with some of the factory cars that do 0-60 in 3 seconds, that's fast!

I too have discovered that an SUV (aka soccer-mom car) can be quite peppy. I bought a 2017 GMC Terrain Denali with 3.6 liter V-6. I'm not sure but I believe that is the same engine they put in the small Cadillac SUV. In any case it will put some Gs on you if you put you're foot down. It has great acceleration at all speeds. I never expected that kind of power out of an SUV, but I'm lovin' it!

Where do you do your racing?

Grandma and Grandpa (Us) have 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with a 2.0 4 banger with a turbo. Just this past weekend a guy driving a fancy Mustang Cobra pulls along side at a stop light. Looks over and gives us a smile, and I gave him the “Lets Go” look. Reached down and put the trans in Sport mode, light goes green and the tires squealed. We got 2 car lengths in front of him before he knew what happened. He pulled into a driveway before we could wave goodbye. Haven’t done that since high school...WOW, that was fun!

My Batmobiles (2008 Mercury Marquis, 2 of them) have 4.6 L V-8 engines and will flat out fly, and are so comfortable you can do some incredible speeds and not know it. Continual use of the cruise control has probably saved me from a lot of speeding tickets.

Got no fast cars anymore.
The 3 fastest cars I've owned - in the order I owned them - were
1969 Olds 442 with the 400 Rocket V8 motor and dealer option 3 speed auto transmission
1969 Porsche 911T - mechanically injected 2.4 liter boxer 4 cylinder and 5-speed transaxle
1992 Ford Taurus SHO - 3.0 liter Yamaha-massaged V6 and 5-speed transmission

...Yamaha R1...

...150 horsepower...385 pounds dry weight...

...0-60...2.7 seconds...

...quarter mile in the 9s at 140+...

...180 top speed...

...I have seen 150 on the speedo...that was good enough...

...riding it on the mountain roads up here is incredible because she handles like a Moto Gp bike...

Wish we could get those RS Avants stateside. Own an A6 Avant, and love it. Dream of owning one of the RS's. All that power with Quatro..........

Everything these days is stupidly fast. It's absurd how much power they cram into SUVs.

Me? 5-cylinder VW Golf. Can't complain about it in the slightest.

The 2.5L 5-cylinder engine makes 170hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, mated to a 6-speed Tiptronic transmission. Plenty fast, and the dual-clutch transmission is entertaining and rather useful for highway passing and such. Handles great, and the ride is smooth.

The best part? On a trip over the weekend, I averaged 39.5 mpg. I was sure the computer was lying to me until I did the math on it.

So...fast enough, a hoot to drive, and nearly double the gas mileage of most SUVs. Sure, there are lots of cars these days that are faster, but where are you going to actually use that power?

I can't complain...

My Dodge Caravan is rated at 296 hp and will definitely get moving fast..fast.:)
As long as it's not in 'economy' mode.

If you want acceleration, nothing could beat my 1963 Ford Galaxie with the 223 ci 'mileage maker' engine. At least there was nothing SLOWER than it was.

I have a Z06 corvette. Not sure of the 1/4 time but it’s pretty fast. It has 650 hp and 650 torque. Top speed about 200 mph.
And I drive it like an old lady, really
I have a farmer friend that owns one of those.

Now 72 and for the most part have had a faster than most car for all of my driving life. Got a 59 Chev 283 power pack 4spd manual as my first car when I was 16 in the 60s. Had muscle cars and did significant street and strip racing in the late 60s.

On my 7 Vette now, see my avatar picture (15 Z51 Vette). Its not the fastest car out there, but its up there. I traded in a 07 Z06 to get this drop top. Has a lot of power and just as important has super brakes and handling. Traits I take advantage of here in the twisty/ curvey hilly roads where I live.

Age (and a bad left knee/leg) did play a little into this purchase a this is the first auto trans Vette I have owned. To be honest I do miss rowing the boat a bit!:(
