Matthew Quigley, Our New Pup! [UPDATED 4/13/25]

Quigley at 13 weeks. Still in puppy bootcamp. He is a tri-color and looks just like his dad.

Also, a picture of his sister, Hedi with her ghost eyes. She is the spittin image of her mom.

Quigley is about the equivalent of a mischievous 4 year-old human child. Loves to get attention by doing what he's not suppose to.

Life is good!

Dogs don't get any more handsome than that. I know you look forward to many happy days with Quigley.

As I stated in an earlier post I am partial to my girl . But damn , that is one fine looking Aussie . If I could call up a breeder and order an Aussie , she'd be a blue merle (?) with two different colored eyes . But , I do love my Nahla , hell she sleeps with us !

He will have you trained in no time at all!

Congrats!

Talk about a wave of emotion from only a pic. That hit me hard. Looks just like my old girl Cassie, RIP.

You said a mouthful my friend.

I'm training him with a clicker and treat. He will "come" when I call him because he gets a treat.

So.........on our long walks in the woods, he stays back and waits for me to say "come" so he can get an extra treat. He has me trained well!

He also knows how to "shake". So when you scold him, he raises his paw to shake. Brings tears to my eyes.

Sorry dog! LOL

I'm proud to say that I've broken him from herding. He was a terror on walks. He would dive past you at top speed, but grab your pant leg to turn you. Silent and sneaky fast. Those teeth hurt if he hits skin. Had to go to combat boots and short pants when we train.

I finally had to just grab him when he dove for my leg and force his nose into the ground and hold him down until he cried uncle. I really don't like doing that, but he was terrorizing my wife when she walked him. He finally quit.

In that same regard, going down our stairs, he would ambush your leg and both of you would tumble down the stairs. He missed once, fell, top to bottom, summersalting all the way, end over end. I thought he had broken his neck.

All this is funny because I wanted a German Shepherd, or a Malinois (I have worked with police K9's) but at my age I thought they would present too much of a challenge to properly train.

This little boy is actually more difficult to handle. He's that smart and determined to have his way. We often go for a 2 mile sprint in 95 degree weather. Doesn't even phase him. Then he'll rough house for 2 hours when we get home.

I do love it so!

Quigley is doing well and is twenty-pounds now. He is into a new phase and a little rebelliousness.

Best news is that he can make it through the night without being let-out for a break. Finally. We have to work on leash training now.

He is very strong and a four mile run in 90 degree/90% humidity doesn't even phase him. He will keep me young!

He has finally started to bark. He has a deep, bass bark much like a German Shepherd. He only uses it when he thinks we need an alert. Perfect and just what we wanted.

Here are a couple of pics.

Here's Quigley at 16 weeks.

I thought I had him trained to stop on command so I had been walking him with no leash. I knew it was too good to be true because he was so young.

Sure enough, last week he broke and ran and refused to "stop". So, he's now in the chain gang until he's a little older.

The experts say not to ask for much until they are 6 months old. But, he leash trained very fast. This is a great accomplishment at this young age.

He is cutting his adult teeth right now, so he a little miserable at times.

Life is good!

Glad to see he's doing fine . Between you and my calendar , it's got pics of Aussies , I'm frothing at the mouth to get Nahla a sister . You can't ask for a better dog , either as a pet or as a working dog . Once it gets cool here , I am going to get her into agility . That's where these dogs really shine . Or you can try dock diving , if he's into water .

Ours is a mix (well we have two, Addy is the follower) and Hollie is my wifes dog. Very loyal. We recently had surgery on her eyes, as she went blind and required drops 3x a day, which she hated  now she is essentially pain free and no drops. The thought of a puppy has crossed my mind, but my wife says not right now ...

They are about 13 (Hollie on left) and 12 yrs old now

After watching the Senate subcommittee hearings for the last two days, I figured I better put my time to better use so I made this video.

The shots are in chronological order from 7 weeks to 20 weeks. It's fun to watch him grow!

EDIT: SEE POST 61 BELOW..........................
