Potato chips

In our much maligned fair city, we have the two best chips in the known world. Mrs. Fisher's and Old Salty's. No brag, just fact. We had a third local a few years ago, Mr. G's, but I haven't seen them in a while.

Sixty years ago, you could go to Mrs. Fisher's then little hole in the wall, and for two cents, you could get a bag of what we called "crushed". As the chips came out of the fryer, they went on to a coarse screen to cool and be salted. The bits that went through the screen were the crushed. A veritable symphony of salt, potato, and grease.

Salt and grease are the two most important food groups, essential to the maintenance of weight and blood pressure.
Gotta keep that blood pressure up....it's like the oil pressure in your car. Too low for either and you and the engine seize up :D
Third main group is Sugar. Nothing more healthful than a little salt in your beer to wash down those fresh from the fryer glazed donuts on one's way to court in the morning;)

I dunno man. Could there be anymore chemicals in food than flavored chips besides some sausages? Plain chips for me and few of those.

I love chips.............

as long as they are dipped into my custom clam dip with cream cheese
mayo and a few extra things to bring it up a notch.

The container of dip is lucky to last an hour at all the family gatherings.

Wise potato chips for me. They don't seem to be as greasy and salty as years ago, but still the best. There's a whole bag of them in the kitchen calling my name as I type this.

If I can't get Wise chips I'll take Bickels or Utz.

Salt and vinegar chips, no matter who makes them, are my favorite. The upside is nobody else likes them, so I get the whole bag. :)

I'm with you ChuckS1! I love chips in general but there's no passing up Salt and Vinegar ones. And like you said, doesn't matter what the brand. I'm just a sucker for them. My husband does like them as well so thankfully the risk of eating the whole bag is isn't too bad. In general we try not to buy them. ;)

When I lived in Ind. several years ago, we got chips under the name of Seyforts (hope that is the right spelling) they were at that time better than Lays. I don't like any fancy flavored chips, just plain old chips or occasionally salt and vinegar.

I live down the road from Hanover, PA, the salty snack capital of the world. UTZ potato chips and Snyder's Pretzels both have factory outlets there and the temptation is great. But I think about my sugar going up and I stay out (most of the time).

I wonder if Charles Chips are still around? When we lived in Western Maryland the Charley Chips guy would deliver large cans of pretzels and potato chips to your door weekly, like milk delivery was done at that time. Imagine milk delivery today. The CC pretzels were great. I think CC was located somewhere in PA.

Back in the 50's and 60's we had several company's that made good chips, they all got bought out buy Frito Lay, that was when I stopped eating chips, they were not the same anymore.[emoji46]

Apparently so, but I haven't seen a dealer in several years. One used to set up in the parking lot of a local strip mall, but not for some time . . .

Charles Chips

In are area there is only one really good old fashioned Potato Chip and they are still cooked in lard! These use to be a real treat especially around Thanksgiving with a turkey sandwich.
But things have changed, one Good family bought out the other one and they are just not like they use to be?
At one time you could only buy them buy the can and at the local farmers market.

I remember as a kid the Charlie’s Chip guy would come around, use to sell all kinds of goodies and their chips were pretty good.
Haven’t seen them around here in years?
