So whats a root canal going for these days ?

REAL $ OR INSURANCE $ ???

Since moving to Fl I have had 3 root canals fail- leading to extraction, leaving a void & my teeth shifting around. The Doc says I must have a bite like a pit bull. My bite has improved, I just can't chew all that well. 1,000$ sounds right BEFORE the crown, etc etc. On the plus side, my appearance fits right in & soon I should be able to floss with a pencil. Implants seem to be the way to go, if you can afford them, just not in the top/rear. (too close to the sinuses & the sagging issue) Chew on that for a while.

I pay $1100 for the root canal with a lady who specializes only in root canals. I've had three from her with no problems. I'm no expert but I think some dentists are trying to get into root canals without all the necessary skills and they are removing too much material from the inside of the tooth causing weakness which results in failure later on. The one tooth I had done by a general dentist did not work out well at all. In all cases, the crown is about $950 additional.

I think you are correct. I think you just described my own dentist. I'm continually having pieces of my previous dental repairs falling out - one just six days after it was done. Dentist blamed it on my grinding my teeth at night, but the piece that fell out (when I was sitting at the computer) wasn't even in a friction zone. My dentist suggested I might need a root canal...which she does perform on patients when needed...but IMHO it has always been specialists who do RC's...and I'm not about to let a garden variety dentist do major work like that. FYI I'm only at this dentist because of insurance situation. It is cheap and affordable dentistry (and) ya get what ya pay for.

As I said before, all if not most of my root canals have failed, broken off. Oddly they're all uppers. So now in this PC world I'm tooth deprived. Do you have any idea what implants cost these days? Sorry I'll have my filet mignon grinded please.
