Old Man Drinks

"Hell my mother in law used to have ashtrays that matched her good china that were placed at the place settings of the family members that smoked."

One of my many shortcomings is that I don't care for alcohol in any form. But I wanted to comment on the above - I've never smoked tobacco, but I also never saw my mother or brother awake without a cigarette in hand. I like seeing old movies where every adult is smoking, but I don't know exactly why I like that. Nostalgia maybe.

I do like being able to eat without smelling other peoples smokes. A lot of people in my area still smoke, and that's none of my business, but I really wish they'd quit flinging their butts out of their cars. I don't know if cars don't have ashtrays, or people have changed. My brother and I used to argue about who's turn it was to empty out the ashtray in my mother's car when it was full - we both wanted to do it.

Don't know if it counts as an "old man drink," but the closest thing to a cocktail I used to drink was Jack-and-Coke. I think I had a Long Island Iced Tea once.

Nowadays I rarely drink, and when I do it's usually beer or bourbon.

Whatever old-man libations the rest of y'all are drinkin' -- and for me it'll be a couple of fingers of Elijah Craig over ice -- let's raise our glasses to the Bayou Barrister being back 'mongst us. Sante!

Only tourist , hippies or the sexually confused adulterate good liquor....

But not all liquor is good.

Good vodka - neat, right out of the freezer.
Good whisky - store ice, or neat
Good gin - ditto, with a couple of olives
But if I have to drink Jack Daniels, a tall glass with soda.
If for some reason I am stuck with Crown Royal or Windsor Canadian, then I want it mixed with Dr. Pepper.

Some people call them 6-packs. To me they are support groups.

Some people call them 12-packs. I prefer to think of them as a 12-step program.

24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not; most likely part of God's sense of balance in the universe.

I think I'll have another beer now.

My beer comes in 30-packs. I usually buy 2 at a time. How does the math figure in for that?

Alcohol has “never” been near the top of my list for drinks. I grew up without a lot of “throw-away” money......I chose guns and bullets over drinking! I do enjoy a cold beer after a hard day of work on a hot summer day. My go to beverages of choice, sweet tea with lemon and Dark Roast Community Coffee......yes, I grew up in the “Deep South”! Louisiana, to be specific! :) memtb
