I agree with you completely. I spent a lot of money one summer trying to acquire taste for Scotch because it was the in thing around here to walk into a bar and order a double Chivas on the rocks. Never again.

And Chivas calls itself scotch...try a nice 18 year speyside single malt sometime.

Of all the scotches that I’ve tried over the years trying to acquire the taste , the only one that I’ve ever enjoyed was a Highland single malt that a good friend brought to the house one Christmas Eve, but for the life of me I can’t remember it’s name.

Have you ever tried substituting the simple syrup with some northern Michigan maple syrup? Its very good!
And agree the rye is the ticket.
