This mornings thoughts about my country

Every citizen of this country deserves the right to vote, I am tired of the rhetoric regarding voting by mail being a path to illegal voting, I have voted by mail when it was pointed out how easy it was to vote absentee and not mess around with polls, I can't remember when I quit going to polls. This state along with others voted for mail in voting years ago, there are no poll issues and also no marginalized people either. Everyone gets a free say and I believe that is how it should be. Oregon has been voting by mail longer than Washington, they believe they had as many as a couple dozen illegal votes cast, I'll take those odds when you consider how many people could otherwise not be able to make it to the polls for whatever reason. You do have to have an address and be a registered voter, I've done the work of registering voters and work in polling booths. Its by far and away high time to move into the 21st century and improved our American right to vote so that everyone has an even chance to voice their opinion.

There's the apathetic middle people who just follow whatever seductive voice they hear, and they've only been hearing the voices of one side for years. Those who control which voices get heard need to change. That's not under control of the ballot box. If "we" could somehow get our voices heard by the passive consumers of mass media, we might have a chance. Reminds me of Horton Hears a Who.

Exactly why we need to get their attention. I've suggested one way. Money.

Selling advertisement is a vicious and competitive business. The salesmen don't want to lose accounts. The news outlets want that revenue because that's how they're supposed to be makeing their money.

A few months ago I attended a presentation given by the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine (SAM). At the beginning of the meeting a long term state politician stood up to literally wave his Bible and assert that he thought "bipartisanship" was a dirty word for which he had only contempt, mouthed all the right words about 2A and made some sort of insulting remarks about LGBGT stuff. I guess he thought he had a pretty sympathtic audience. I pretty much tuned him out after the Bible waving. If I had wanted to be in church I would have gone there. So I played silent majority and kept my mouth shut.

"When fascism comes to America it will be holding a cross and be wrapped in the American flag."

I'm a militant moderate. When we can't talk in order to engage in rational discussion or argument with our political opponents we are lost and the Republic is at risk. Extremists of any idelogical stripe -- those incapable of any compromise or compassion -- are our true enemies.

It's the 60's all over again, with no lessons learned.

DeathGrip....don't be so influenced by the news media (personally I think the mainstream media is so corrupted they can no longer report an accurate story). I have real doubts about the accuracy of the reporting and especially the political polls, remember the last election where virtually every poll indicated a landslide for Clinton.....uhhhh it didn't happen. Keep the faith and vote your conscience.

I get that and I'm not the influenced one. At least not by the MSM.

I worry about the rising numbers of idiots that are influenced and vote and breed. The product of education unchecked AKA indoctrination. But that's another part of the playbook.

I hear you brother.........all we can do is teach our own children and grandchildren what is right & wrong, and to think for themselves and not be influenced by false voices..........and pray they will learn and pass it on.

I have been active in local politics. As a Democrat when I was young, and switching party to Republican when I was a little older.

I have observed BOTH major parties play games with absentee balloting. Those who say there is no voting fraud are either ignorant or deliberately lying.

I hear you but you have to realize that we can't fix the mess from our recent past that have no chance of learning reasonable thought. That's gonna take an epiphany that I don't see in todays basement dwellers.

Mean while in China

American politics works best when played between the 40 yard lines.

Both sides need to learn that lesson.

The Founders in their wisdom constructed a system that is designed to produce incremental change (in whatever direction) via a complex, slow-moving set of checks and balances, that seeks to put a damper on impulsive, rash, momentary political passions.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Liberty does not mean license.

Free men have access to the Four Boxes of Liberty, to be used in this order:

Soap Box - let others know what you believe, plead for freedom.

Ballot Box - Vote for wise and competent leaders.

Jury Box - A single juror, following his conscience, can help to remove injustice.

Cartridge Box - If all else fails....

I am proud to be an American. We sure are not perfect, but we are still the best there is.

Right now we are a bit over loaded with whiners though.

Not many of us were born with a silver spoon in our mouths. I sure wasn't. I had some stuff to over come, We all do, to some degree. Easiest way to over come it is good old hard work. I was near the break area on a refinery job and heard a young girl from LA, whose life maters, say to another "I am tired of her whining, I had it the same way, I got a job and am making good money. She can too. Ya, its hard, but worth it." I wanted to go hug that woman.

Another thing. Every one quit being so "sensitive". It ain't all about YOU. White bread is just about bleached flour. THATS IT. Should a religious group want to change the name of a popular brand of rolled oats? We don't need to go renaming mountains and rivers. The more we try to erase the past, the more we doom ourselves to repeat it.

I turned on the TV this morning (I know, first mistake).

I got to thinking that if we as Americans stopped watching the news maybe they would stop reporting BS. Silly me.

Here's my plan, Contact every advertiser and inform them that I and lots of people would quit using their products and services. I would also go as far as informing small business and big corporate in plain language that their policies are stupid and the people that listen to them more than likely don't buy their products or services.

Hopefully we can collectively dry up the well and make the appeasement crowd see the error in their ways.

I've started a list
Gave up on the news a while ago. I started my boycott by dropping professional sports. No more NFL, NBA,or MLB. No more Nike. I'm only one grain of sand on a really large beach, but maye others will join too.

What used to be the American Dream, striving for the goal of working for a family, home and community is now being touted as a fundamental right.
That far fetched agenda is so wide spread even in advertising (you deserve...) the only hope I see is that the number of believers is fewer than appears from the media.

What used to be what was referred to as
the American Dream was rooted in the
post WWII period of general prosperity
when middle class life and achieving it
was much easier in the U.S.

But for decades the so-called middle class
has been shrinking in actual numbers and
so are chances for advancement.

This is bringing a change in seeing how
the American Dream can be achieved and
it involves more social/economic engineering
in what is now recognized as the World Economy.
