Benadryl does work on my allergies better than anything else. The OTC other ones do little to nothing, like Claratin, Zyrtec, etc, and as I said, Actifed knocks me out like morphine does to most people. Unfortunately for me, my late grandmother and mother, morphine intravenously does absolutely nothing. I had three hits of it after surgery and got nothing but a cold arm as it went into the IV. But they gave me a Percocet, and in 20 minutes I was out for 4 hours. I took Percocets for shoulder pain for over 6 months, and stopped cold turkey without telling the doctor. It was like I stopped taking breath mints. No withdrawal, nothing but an easier time going to the bathroom a couple of days later. The doctor looked at me like I was an alien. Besides apparently not able to become addicted to opiates, my grandmother, mother, and I all shared a huge tolerance of it orally. I took one of mom's 60 Oxycontin, thinking incorrectly it was a 20, and was actually able to function fairly well, and cooked myself a nice dinner while zombied out. Later on, when I had a kidney stone, I took a 40 and had a nice buzz going. I'm even weird on kidney stones, they for the most part, don't hurt all that much, the gout is 10X worse. The one I took the Oxycontin for was the worst one, and it wasn't pleasant, but nowhere near the horrible thing friends have gone through with them. The doctor said, "You have no idea how lucky you are!".
