If limited to 10 rounds, what do you carry?

Nothing I carry on a normal basis has more than 8 rounds. I only own one pistol that has more than 10 and that's a RIA 1911 .22tcm. I have thought about carrying it, since it is Commander sized and I have a few Commander holsters. The fat grip is problematic though. I normally carry a J-frame, either a 640pro .357, a 342 .38spec, and sometimes an SP-101 in .327FM. With pistols, it's either a Sig P239 .357Sig or a 4516 .45 ACP, both carrying 7+1. If I'm in a SA mood, it's a S&W 1911 PD, Sig RCS or a Kimber Ultra Carry. 1911 carry has become pretty rare lately, though. Ive just never felt the need for a high cap pistol that can't be addressed by a couple of extra single stack mags.

I spent a long time carrying revolvers. When I retired, I was carrying either a S&W 686-6 or a 65-1 with a 12-2 as a backup. I kept carrying the 65-1 and 12-2 until my back made it impossible. I started carrying a Ruger EC9s with a 7+1 round mag in the gun with two 9 round mags in reserve. I added a S&W SD9 with three 16 round magazines to my carry routine when the riots started in cities to which we must travel for medical appointments. If limited to 10 round magazines I would carry the little Ruger until I got 10 rounders for the SD9. I couldn't replace any of my revolvers if they ended up in a police property room for months/years. The combat Tupperware could be replaced if necessary.

M&P or P226R in 357Sig. If you're limited in round count you might as well go with something a bit more stout than 9mm.

No, you go with whatever round you can shoot the best under stress, just as if you had no capacity limit. All the service calibers "work" the same; don't compromise shootability to get an illusory gain in per round "stopping power."

I live in a State that does not restrict and lots of times I carry my Sig P6 which is only 8 rounds. Sometimes I will grab an extra mag. and stick it in my back pocket but, most times not.

If limited to 10 rounds in .40 or .45, I'd opt for my Smith & Wesson Model 4053. I prefer the Gen3 metals over the modern M&P options.

I like the DAO version of the 4013 and carry my 4053 in an IWB Don Hume H715-M W/C-S #33. Gun, 9+1 SD ammo, and holster weighs only 37 ounces.

Smith & Wesson Model 4053 .40 S&W

I like the S&W 3rd Gens too much to carry one and risk it getting neglected in an evidence locker with a case number crudely etched on it in the event that I should actually have to use it.

I can live with that happening to an M&P, plus they're cheaper, lighter, and generally more available.

.

A concept I could never buy into.... if I'm carrying a gun for "protection" I want the best (for me) gun I can have available. If I should be forced to use it, and I come out on the other end of the encounter; then the cost of loosing it is a small price to pay.

That said .... I have a backup in the safe for every carry gun I actually daily carry................ Sometimes the Backups even have there own Backups.

They quit doing that decades ago . . .

I'm with you. When you calculate the odds of actually having a gun confiscated, it seems well worth the risk to carry your best.
And I love 3rd Gens too, but they're not exactly Korth or Wilson Combat...

I live & carry in a 10rd state. I dont see much of a point carrying a full size gun with 10rds when I can carry a smaller gun with 10+1 rds. My 1911pd is the exception, but mostly its a g26/27. I feel quite comfy carry 9mm with good ammo like the 124gr hst +p.

I used to think that until the Kalif doj put a list out of guns we can buy. So losing a gun to evidence could mean I never get it back. So I stopped carrying ny expensive 1911s & went to a glock 26/27 or 19/32.

Different strokes.

Personally, while I love the S&W 3rd Gen pistols, I don't feel that there's anything functionally wrong with the M&P Series, nor do I feel that I'm giving anything up by choosing an M&P over a 3rd Gen.

Honestly, I know some folks don't like modern polymer-framed pistols, and I do feel that the 3rd Gens are both aesthetically as well as structurally superior, but in terms of overall function, the M&P Series is just as good if not better for self-defense.

If you feel more confident carrying a time-proven 3rd Gen, then more power to you, but I'd rather carry a cheap M&P.

Besides, do you know what I've been carrying since last October? A Smith & Wesson SW40VE, a Gen 3 SIGMA. So at the very least, I think we can all agree that the M&P is an upgrade to the Sigma Series, so although I wouldn't be carrying what may be the pinnacle of S&W semiautomatic pistols, I'd at least be carrying the finest of their polymer-framed pistols if that is indeed where I end up.

There's nothing wrong with Standard Pressure 9mm let alone +P for self-defense, I merely prefer .40 S&W or higher because as previously mentioned, as of about 2 years ago, wild animals including hogs have been sighted in my residential area, so I like something with a bit more oomph that would still be effective against tougher four-legged threats.
Some will argue that 9mm is already enough, and they may be right, but I prefer something larger with more energy.

Hey.... carry what you want... what you're comfortable with..... I'm not putting down anyone's choices.............. I'm just set in my ways so with a few 3rd Gen guns ... that's what I carry ..... for the past 30 years.

Old dogs .... new tricks............ I'm happy ... you're happy .... we are all happy...................

My state doesn't limit magazine capacity but my hand size does. That being the case my primary EDC is a S&W Shield with a Glock 48 for nightstand and occasional carry. Interestingly enough the G-48 is only 1/4" taller than the Shield when the Shield 8 round mag is installed and only 1" longer in OAL. But to me the Shield carries "smaller" if that makes any sense.
