I have an Airlite Ti 342. I carried it as a back up for many years. In fact I bought it the first year they came out. It is one of the original grey or silver finished ones. I am thinking of having it cerokoted in a different color. Probably matte black or maybe a color like blueing. I would like the Ti cylinder coated too.

Has anyone here done this and can you coat the Ti cylinder without any issues.

Thanks,

Jay

Hey partner! My 342Ti purchased used is the only revolver to have the ClearKote frame finish peel off from GunScrubber. I use GS on all of my guns for cleaning. Its 'sister' 337 was not so affected. Hoppe's Elite is a recommended cleaner for the cylinder on these 2 and my 340PDs. Frankly, not being a true fan of these guns (just carry pieces to me), I wouldn't bother altering the finish. Check 6.

The LGS cerakoted an 1911. Bought it as a donor gun for parts. Ended up sandblasting the coating off. The pistol looked nicer after we removed the coating. Just leave the 342 Ti like it is, I had one until about a month ago. I paid $450 for mine quite a few years ago, sold it a month ago for $800.

You can mask off tight tolerance areas and with proper application the finish would be quite durable but the resale of the gun would be affected.
My opinion, unless the finish is really showing some bare metal, leave it alone. Its a part of the guns story.
A work truck has rust and dents. Better than new and shiny imho

Edit: if you would ask me about cerakoting a glock by all means do it. Then they can be somewhat appealing to look at.

Thanks for the words of wisdom. It is much appreciated. If I have it done, I would have to talk with the people doing the work. I would address where the coating would need to be masked and or applied really thin.

Thanks again,

Jay

Years ago, I re-finished at 340PD with KG Guncoat. I sprayed only the frame and barrel, leaving the titanium cylinder in its original state. Had no problems with it, presumably because the cylinder ratchets and cylinder were not coated.

Me and a buddy have had several complete guns (revolvers, autos, rifles) and parts black nitrided by H&M without any issues with fit. Here’s a 15-2 I had done. That said, I am not sure aluminum can be black nitrided because the high involved in the process.

That is kind of what I was thinking. Looks good to me. I even have the same front sight to go on when I am done.
