I was at the county courthouse early this morning so I could be sworn in for the new term. It's a chilly and wet 35 degrees on the first morning of 2021, so after leaving the courthouse I drive back home to gear up and pickup Daisy, and with gun deer season over I grab my camera for a morning hike and see if I can get a few photos. Thought I'd share a few of the first 2021 pictures here.
I bought Daisy a new carrier and insulated cover so she can go with me on colder days. I don't let her ride in the cab of the truck and her summer time cage/carrier she usually rides in is a bit drafty in the winter. Today was our first test run and she seemed to be okay with it.
I drove a few miles over to a friend's farm who told me a few days ago he's been spotting some bald eagles hanging around. Mrs. Faulkner said she'd hang around and keep the fire going at home, so Daisy and I went off to see if we could get a shot (picture) of the eagles.
I suppose after all the creek visits last summer where Daisy likes to swim, she thinks water is for playing in even when the temperatures are in the mid 30's. She loves the water.
Not far ahead I noticed a hawk circling and stop to see if I can get a picture. Before I could get the shot I saw the hawk bank and dive into some tall grass on the edge of the fence line and pasture we're walking along. I checked to see if Daisy had seen it, but she's off galivanting around behind me, so I decide to see how close I an get to the hawk. I slipped around a large cedar tree and saw the hawk had caught something in it's talons. I'm sure it saw me before I saw it, so I was able to get a quick shot before it took to wing, but it only flew a few yards and landed in the open where I could actually see it a little better.
