Okay these are my first shot with my new AR, Didn't think it was too bad for a first time using one. I was a little shaky and my glasses kept fogging up.

I don't have a good gun holder to put the gun in to sight it in, just a rubber block. I don't think I did too bad though for a noob.

Target at 22 yards using the Iron sights as they came from S&W. Ammo was PMC X-Tac 5.56 greentip. The gray area is 4" across, POA was the center of the orange. 3 shot groups off hand no stand.

This was later using the red dot w/3x Mag and a rapid (rapid for me away) rate of fire. Ammo was Australian Outback .223. Point of aim is the big black dot about 1.6" below center.

Good deal. Hope you're enjoying the new gun. Whenever I use one of mine with hard sights, kind of get that "I'm back home now" feeling. Happens every time. So I assume you're looking through the optic with the front sight in place? Flip style, FSB, other? You ok with it?

Uh, if both groups were at 22 yards, your point of impact should be below the point of aim due to the difference between the bore axis and the sight axis. Somewhere around 1 inch below should be what you're aiming (pun intended) for.

They were.

Okay, here you say the "point of impact (where the bullet hits the target) should be below the point of aim."

If that is correct why would I aim 1" below what I'm trying to hit if the "point of impact should be below the point of aim"

First my top image was just using the iron sights.

The bottom image was using a red dot

Now Using one of the online scope offset calculators (using my scope height, muzzle velocity, distance where i wanted the gun zero'd at 100yds etc.) , it said my point of aim should be 1.6" below my target (point of impact) at 22yds.

Which that matches almost exactly where I was trying to aim (the big black dot) with my red dot. which that black dot is only slightly more than 1.6" below where I was wanting to hit.

I am.

Yes, I have the Magpul flipup mbus rear sight and the front A2 sight that came with it and I'm using Riton X1 Tactix RRD and have it at a 1/3 cowitness. Plus I have Riton 3X Maginfier.

You ok with it?
Yes, With the RRD it's fine. When I flip the Mag3 up I don't really see the front sight its blurred out pretty much.

I might could could zero everything a bit better, but I don't a gun stand just a FAS foam block.

You should have BOTH your BUIS AND Red Dot hitting roughly 1.5" LOW at 25 yards IF you want the rifle (close to) ZERO at 100 yards.

The AIMING POINT on the target below is the GRAY (25 yds). POI is the COLORED center. Aim at the GRAY, hit in the COLORED center, and you will (theoretically) be ZERO at 100 yds. with 55 gr FMJ at approx. 3200 +/- fps.

Okay that's pretty much what I figured and where I wound up at.

I got to get to the rifle range next to verify it at a 100yds though. (that range is a little farther out and I haven't had a chance to go there yet.

I forgot I had downloaded that same target plus the one that says red dot on it! I got it in my files.

Those 'Adjusted Zero Targets' are nice if you don't have 100+ yards available. But, it's always better to confirm zero at your intended distance. Good luck, and post pics of your targets when you're done.

This is my Remington R-15 VTR Predator at 100 yards. 55 gr V-Max and Nikon M-223 4-16x42 scope with 'Quick Turrets' for out to 600 yds (once zeroed at 100 yds.).

Nice looking build and a good tight group.
