Of course! The photographer is on Roosevelt Island, right across the East River from New York-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center. That is the Queensboro bridge to the south.
My doctors are about 800 feet west of the photographer, at Memorial Sloan Kettering, seen in lower photo, far left edge of photo, taller building behind the building in the foreground.
That island is not exactly on the beaten path for most people. I took this photo in January. It shows the location on Roosevelt Island where the photographer was standing.

Thousands came into town Sat night, said to be the second largest celebration in the US.
I was not near downtown, way too many drunks for my well being.

At this time of year, I think of the big Saint Patrick's Day bash
put on by Savannah. Seems to get more popular every year. This was in 1983.

You are 100% correct!
I thought someone posted photos looking from the other side. Sorry, couldn't recall who it was.
I thought this view would have been a different look at things
If you look close you can see the Roosevelt Island Tram, the UN in the distance, and a tug with a barge.

wheelgun28's comment about appreciation of urban NYC photos made me think of the cool equipment on display at the Intrepid Air and Space Museum.
