Saw these Eagle Scout plates on the DMV website. Had to have some! I have veteran plates on my Road King. The surcharge on each plate goes to their respective organization.

$30 of my registration goes to the Huntsman Cancer Institute for cancer research.

I have them on both of my vehicles along with my custom LP frames.

This is a shot of the lobby of the historic old Royal Hawaiian Hotel, one of the first luxury hotels on Waikiki beach in Honolulu. My wife and I stayed there on our 50th wedding anniversary trip. It was, and is, a very classy place!

...and this is the vista that presents itself on exiting the hotel to Waikiki Beach. The pink umbrellas belong to the hotel, and a very nice veranda restaurant is to the right of the picture. The lawn there is immaculately trimmed.

Started collecting antique leather bound books a while back for my den and came across these today.
Goethe's Works, in English, full set printed in 1882 and 1883.
5 of the 10 are first Editions from 1882!
Not sure, but I believe just one of those is worth more than what I paid for the whole set?
Can't wait to read "Faust"

Lemme look... I'm sure I have a signed copy of Virgil's Aeneid somewhere here, too. Might be a fake, though, as I don't read Greek.

That brings back wonderful memories! It was painted pink, as I recall, which was the "corporate color" of Kaiser Corp.(?) who owned it. My parents & I went to Hawaii a few times when I was a kid in the 50s and 60s. Never stayed in the Royal Hawaiian, though. We were in more modest digs at the Hawaiiana, off Kalakaua Blvd. at (consults Google maps...) Beach Walk, near Ft. Derussy, although the last time (around 1968) we stayed in the Sans Souci, out near Diamond Head :D as we had friends who owned a suite there.

Third-generation book restorer quietly goes about making rare and antique volumes right again

From a rare Moby Dick second-edition to one of the earliest illustrated children's books to a 1739 Koran, Richard Smart's E.C. Rare Books is a bibliophile's dream

"...His grandfather began a seven-year apprenticeship at a Cecil Court bindery in London’s Charing Cross at the age of 15. “Unlike today where we want to move on very, very quickly, speed being so important in today’s life, they had apprenticeships that took years,” Smart said, sounding wistful, as he demonstrated his skill at laying down thin lines of gold leaf on a book’s cover...."

Now here is something you don't see every day. The MV Ever Given , one of the worlds largest container ships, caught some wind while transiting the Suez Canal and got turned sideways. It got jambed hard into both sides of the canal and tugboats have been unable to budge it. Shipping traffic is seriously backed up.
Edit: Experts studying the event say that she was traveling 5 knots over the speed limit, setting up a hydrodynamic condition called "Bank Effect", leading to the loss of control.
