Starting to get concerned about warning labels

I'm surprised at all the dismissive attitudes about product safety labels. There are literally thousands of lawyers who make their living by keeping the unaware hordes safe (more or less) from themselves. Isn't that why Rugers have enough warning labels stamped on them to make a short story? The ABA has a veritable committee for the quarrel of liability lawyers:

Back in the old days before warning labels, those who warning labels were designed for probably weren't around as long as they are now. Maybe in modern times the labels are just enabling those who used to get weeded out earlier in life.

Yeah, and look at all the good that has done for society. Idiots don't Darwin award themselves out of the gene pool and all of us pay untold amounts of extra money for every product to cover the cost of the tort awards to the idiots.

I thought I detected a note of sarcasm there, I just reiterated the point directly with a bit more sarcasm. I tend to be fairly plain spoken, though I'm obviously not adverse to using sarcasm when it is warranted and appropriate.

One has to wonder with the inability of schools to teach children the basic skills, reading, writing and arithmetic, who will be around to read and understand all of the written warning signs?

I have witnessed one instance of "stupid" that may have called for a warning label, so I can understand where they come from.

One of the employee's had a birthday, and naturally someone bought in a cake. They put the cake on the table, put a knife beside it. As per our safety rules that said all knives must have some kind of cover over the blade, they wrapped the knife blade in a heavy duty paper towel.

A young engineer came in, saw the cake, which had already been cut by this time, and asked if she could have a slice. Sure, go ahead.

She proceeded to pick up the knife, and sliced a piece of cake off, without removing the paper towel first. Sat the knife, with the frosting covered paper towel still attached, down on the table, getting frosting on said table, and left us in stunned silence...for about ten seconds. Then the room erupted in laughter.

She was still a legend when I retired...a legend that included the night she got lost on the elevator and had to call for someone to come find her. Not long after, she elected to return to college. Rather she was encouraged to make that move or not, I have no idea. We missed her.

I'd be willing to bet, she has been responsible for a warning label or two.

Actually to me those basic skills are the responsibility of the parents WITH the schools help

Why oh why isn't there a label on plastic bags warning people not to carry or store gasoline in theme. I could prevent some needless tragedy. Their flaming bomb of a car might run into an innocent person.

Do you think there should be warning labels on checkbooks, like learn basic 2nd grade math before using this check book. Also, please use the pointy end of your pen.

I had a long term tenant (14 years) that was a Columbus Public School, High School English teacher, with at least one masters degree! She could not remember her rent! She could not remember to look at last month's check record and copy that! She could not remember the address where she lived! She could not spell "Hundred"!

She got her High School's "Teacher of the Year" award! Twice!!

Check the kill switch, the clutch switch, the gear position switch, the kickstand switch and I think there's another one I'm forgetting. Long way from a kick pedal.

There was a fix for that where I grew up. You only got crossing the street wrong once.

What about the person that put Gorilla Glue in her hair because there was a shortage of he normal hair care product! You can't make this stuff up. Never heard how the litigation of that one came out.
