I've got my eye on a 4506 that looks like it was thrown down the proverbially gravel driveway. Is Smith still repairing these, or have they run out of parts?

I know I can call, but thought someone here might already know.

Thank you,

Michael

Don't know for certain, but I expect they will, especially if it does not require replacement parts, especially the receiver. Being stainless steel, you might want to consider refinishing it to be a DIY project.

^^^ This ^^^ for reconditioning the surface of a stainless S&W, grey Scotch Bright™ is your friend. I got a couple of sheets/pads at my local Home Depot™ and was able to do nice work on my (2nd Gen) Model 639. Assuming no parts need replacing, you can replace the recoil spring on general principals and you should be good to go. A lot faster and cheaper than a return trip to Massachussetts!

You can also contact Guzzitaco who is a member of the forum. He's done amazing work on some pretty banged 3rd gens. Some of us think of him as an artisan.

I called S&W about a month ago to see if they were taking in guns for work. They said they have over a 6 month backlog and no waiting list. I told CS rep I wanted to have my CS-45 (3rd gen) gone through, their basic action job, which I believe used to be about $175? She said they could do it but the backlog was the problem right now. She said the Performance Center is focused on New Performance Center guns. She said I could try again in 6 months! :(

Thank for the tip Froggie

If you by chance have access to a bead blast cabinet, you can purchase the "Secret sauce" blast media from McMaster-Carr and it will put a factory satin finish on the gun. A complete disassembly will be required however. There are post on these forums on the subject if you are interested.
