So how cold is it outside?

Balmy at the moment

... but should drop another 25° by morning. The local NWS calls this "radiational cooling" which occurs after the storm is over and the skies clear. I heat with wood and, yes, am wearing long johns. Stand by for an update in the morning.

We've only received 50" total snow this year, but relax, it's not winter yet

Where I am at, we missed the big storm and wind event to the East of us. We only got about 4 or 5 inches of snow but East of the divide in the Red Desert Basin they got over a foot. Most of Eastern WY, NW Nebraska and most of South Dakota is / are closed due to snow and high wind. I was supposed to be in Rapid City, S.D. on Friday for a birthday party. Needless to say, "It ain't happening". As to the temperature, "Colder than a well digger's bucket", comes to mind. High today, about 16 degrees with a low tonight in the range of -5.

22 tonight before we drop to the low teens overnight on the south end of the Denver metro area. Low 30s forecast for tomorrow before we move up a little in to the low 40s. Snow up in the mountains, nothing headed down here.

I have a buddy who is TDY in the Syracuse area of New York and is due to fly home tomorrow. Errrm, not according to the weather forecast I just looked at. :(

We were dodging tornadoes yesterday. Closest one was about seven miles from my house. Highs in the mid 60's today. Highs in the 30's and lows in the low 20's next week.....and then probably some more tornadoes and balmy temps.

We have had fishable ice for almost 3 weeks though I haven't made it out yet. We have only had one day below zero though we are forecast with -18 F next week for a morning. The hope is that it will send a lot of U-Hauls south and put some houses on the market.

Only a few inches of new snow from the current storm front but the wind keeps blowing, whiteout conditions since early yesterday. 2nd day of schools being closed. And each day is colder.

Our temp this morning in the outlying Cedar City, Utah area
was in the high teens. We still have 3-4 inches of snow on
the ground from two back to back snow events last week.

My main concern is keeping my 7 chickens warm and dry so
their eggs and drinking water don't freeze. Running a couple
of heat lamps and radiant heating plates too.

Snowing, wind blowing steady at 27MPH, gusting to 60MPH, three to five foot drifts next to bare ground. The news media actually suggested We stay home. Some roads are closed(most). Temp is around 16 and going negative all next week.

You would be amazed at the difference in clearing protocols in upstate NY compared to most other places. I have been in Eastern and Central Washington since 1993 and have never seen a full sized plow.

It's up to 14 here. Yay.

It has warmed up the week's high of 28 and is supposed to drop below zero this weekend then warm up to the high 30s for Christmas weekend. There is probably a ft of snow on the flats. I have a bunch of piles about 3' high around my drive way from plowing.
