Pops Made It and Didn't Die

Well, Pharmer, congrats! Pretty sure I would not attempt that myself at 71, but quite an accomplishment at 70!

Manitou Incline - Manitou Springs

Thanks for that link. I found what I needed!:)

If you regularly skip leg day,

Skip the Incline

The difficulty of the Incline isn’t for everyone! There are a number of mountain trails that are better suited for casual hikers.

I have done the INCLINE. I’m no fan of heights but it did not bother me. This pic is the last time I did it about 5 yrs ago. Myself, my wife, son and stepson. I can’t lie. They all did better than me. My son has jogged it bottom to top. He lived in the Springs for 4 yrs. My stepson is an over energetic running back (still is) and my wife is a workout junkie. But in my defense I was the oldest and definitely the heaviest in the group LOL. I found coming back down on trail to be difficult. Tough hon my knees

.....I can’t lie. They all did better than me....

Yeah, I read the brochure: "Some have done it in less than half an hour, most in under an hour and a half......" Along the way "encouraging" folks exclaimed: "You're crushing it Pops!" To which I replied: "I'm crumbling it." Joe

I'm 64 and two years ago in July the Tulsa Ski Club planned to hike Pikes Peak. We got up at 3:00 am so that we could hopefully finish the hike to the top by 1:00 when the storms and lightning roll in. At 14,300 feet you are above the tree line and become a human lightning rod. Well 14 of us start out with headlamps in pitch black darkness and the person leading the hike accidentally leads us to the Manitou incline. So we climb that before we start our hike to the summit! I had trained for a couple months but I wasn't sure I would make it because we had just arrived from Oklahoma City that evening with no time to get acclimated to the elevation. The last 1000 feet I was taking little baby steps and could barely walk and it started hailing, then when we got to the top and it was snowing. The hike lasted 10 hrs and 22 minutes and I burned 2800 calories. I was so darn glad when it was over but I'm glad I did it.

You got my respect. On the way down the Barr Trail I saw the sign pointing to Pike's Peak. After the Incline I asked my son: "How far is it?" When he answered 11 miles, give or take I was more convinced of the prudence of the descent. Not that I ever considered going right instead of left. Joe
