New! Model 52 Mags available next month!

Triple K magazines often get a blanket condemnation for not working reliably.

However, I have bought three of them for guns where original factory magazines were either hard to find or very expensive and made them work. Specifically, they were for a Hi Standard HD Military, a Femaru P37 and a Remington PA51. The trick is to have an original factory mag that is known to be reliable for comparison. The issue was always in the feed lip dimensions, follower angle or both.

What I did was field strip the guns, load several rounds into the original mag and several rounds into the Triple K mag and then insert them into the frame and observe the differences in the feed angle in relation to the feed ramp and barrel throat. The Triple K mags invariably weren't presenting the bullet nose the same as a factory mag, or the feed lips were too loose or too tight. A few minutes with some needle nose pliers that had their jaws protected with some electrical tape and the Triple K mags could be adjusted to work reliably.

Yes, I understand that we shouldn't have to mess with them to get them to work. I assume that the Triple K factory didn't have examples of those guns to work with when they engineered their magazines. But I was able to get those $35 magazines to work for me.

Now regarding the Model 52 mags, given that they need to work with a full wadcutter cartridge, it's going to be no small feat if they are successful. Feeding other autoloading cartridges that have a nice long round nosed jacketed bullet is a lot simpler when you have that bullet to help guide the journey. I have a good supply of factory Model 52 mags and will be awaiting some field reports on the Triple K mags once they are in consumer's hands.

I purchased three Triple K magazines for my High Standard Supermatic three years ago. They have been working just as well as the OEM magazines. Hopefully the new S&W model 52 magazines work as well. I will be looking to purchase one in January, 2024 to try out in my pistol. I will let you know how it works.

It would be great if they held at least 6 rounds. Since they are not original anyway.

Since originals can be modified to hold 6, I don't imagine it would be hard to the same with these. It would really be nice if they could hold 9 rounds, which would give you 9+1 for a total of 10 rounds for target shooting. I'm not sure if that can be done however and still have a flush fit on the bottom of the magazine.

Personal experience with Triple K has been spotty at best. I might try on as a range mag. I stick with factory mags ( or factory suppliers) in ANY pistol that may be utilized for defense. Good supply of 1st n 2nd Gen mags. That said , if MegGar ever produces these mags, I'm in quick!

Not many people carry a Model 52 for defense, since it is limited to mid-range wadcutters for ammo. Not to say it wouldn’t work for defense in a serious pinch, but the Mod 52 was designed for the target range from its birth.

While I completely agree on not using a Model 52 for defense, hollow base wadcutters loaded backwards will result in some impressive wound channels, even at just 850 FPS. ;)

The two mags came in this morning, Look good. Some minor differences in construction. Fit tight, when I try to eject them I have to get a fingernail on the floorplate and pull down. Need a firm push to set the mag fully. Tried feeding with an empty case and both mags did so as well as a original 52 mag. Both locked the slide to the rear when I ejected the chambered case. I figure to shoot them next Friday. Will see if they wear in for seating the mag and ejecting the mag. Some oil may help as the mags are bone dry. Overall impression is good.

I will be interested to see if the 3K mag comes apart easily for cleaning. AJ, are you willing to tackle that task?

May take them apart after I shoot them. right now trying to catch up on things. Had company here for a week. Good time, but some stuff got behind.......

Just carry it's cousin the M39..........

Just a picture so just what I can see or think I can see (NOT an indictment!) but first photo, magazine on the far right, where the spring meets the underside of the follower...

...this looks like rust or corrosion? Must just be an odd reflection captured in the photo. But maybe get eyeballs up in there and make sure there's nothing ugly.
