Deadly Global Warming-South Central Texas

A deadly episode of global warming is scheduled to hit S. Central Texas tomorrow. High winds, below freezing temperatures and a chill level down in the teens. This is not normal weather for our region in mid-January. Is all that heat that is melting the polar ice cap coming south to Texas?

Pick up a book titled “Dark Winter”, by John Casey, it’s on Amazon. It was written in 2014 with weather predictions based on science, not politics. It discusses how the earth has cycles based on the sun and moon, and that we are actually in the midst of a cold cycle that will last for a few more years. Other factors such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic activity are also mentioned, and many have come true since 2014. Read it and make up your own mind….

This, no doubt. There are floods in England that used to be once a decade events at most. Now it seems like there are 2-3/year in some places.

I just brought our outside potted plants into our sun porch yesterday and will put covers over outside faucets and drain some water lines tomorrow in preparation. In the great freeze of '21 copper tubing water line to the refrigerator ice maker which ran through the attic burst and did about $5K in damage. That won't happen this time as I am draining the line. Back then it stayed below freezing for over 100 hours, got as low as 8 degrees overnight. Is not supposed to get nearly that low this time but who knows what will happen? Is supposed to be somewhat colder in West Texas than here in San Antonio.

I remember reading the last time Texas got unexpectedly whacked by unusual, Arctic cold, that the price of electricity is unregulated in Texas, that it fluctuates according to demand, and that accordingly electric bills got crazy high for some folks.

Is that a problem for most folks in Texas, or is it just an unusual problem that affects relatively few Texans?

About the last one: Global warming is an indisputable FACT. For every credible person you can present who claims otherwise, there are 1000 credible persons who will say they are wrong. What is up for speculation is it's cause. Could it be natural? I don't know. Could it be man made? I don't know. Could it be cow farts? I don't know. What I do know however, is it is happening.

Learned the hard many years ago. I had cut-off valves/internal drain valves installed on the three faucets that are outdoors and fed from the main water intake under the house. All I have to do nowadays is turn the internal cutoffs under the house, drain what few litres are left in the pipes between the supply link and the outside faucets, and then not worry. Dave_n
