I have been looking at adding some 9mm pistols to the mix and Canik is reasonable in price. I held a Taran version that had an amazing trigger and I have heard good things about the METE and TP9.

I have a Glock 19 Gen3 but it's like holding a 2x4 so meh.

It will be for some local club competition and some range work not for carry.

Anyone have any experience with Canik and any pros or cons you care to share?

No surprises

A friend of mine has the Canik TP9 SF Elite
semi 9mm. Before we shot it I looked it
over and cleaned it.

The machining, fit, and finish I thought was
at a higher level than most Pistols.

As far as shooting the Canik TP9 SF Elite
performance was excellent. Never had to
adjust the rear sight. Trigger was nice.

Hitting plates at about 50ft (16yds) was easy.
We only had time for a box of 9mm and all
worked as it should.

I would recommend.

I am not a lover of plastic guns. I had to have at least 1 though. I decided on a Canik TP9V2. I call the gun a Glock killer. Everything you can get in a Glock and more for a cheaper price. Very well made gun. Mine came with all the stuff you need to clean it plus several palm swell options. Great gun for carry or to keep in tackle/tool box.

I bought one a few years ago and shot it a bit. It had a RDS already mounted. I liked it, at least as much as I do most any plastic 9mm semi, but I didn't think it was a be all, end all. The price was right I remember. Looked like the package Daddio has pictured.

Still it never gave me any trouble, and seemed to hit where I pointed it. I eventually sold/traded it off for some other bright, shiny thing but there was nothing at all wrong with it. Just another plastic 9mm.

I have a Mete MC9. It's a great gun at a great price. I sold my Gen1 Shield that had an Apex duty/carry kit in it and custom night sights after purchasing the Canik. It has features that many of the other micro 9's don't have. I usually change out the triggers in all of my striker fired guns but didn't have to with the MC9, it's that good out of the box.I like that it is fully ambi since I am a lefty.

I’ve always felt like they were a Hi Point with a nice suit.

What about Canik pistols, any pistol on CANiK's line up, would lead you to believe they're like HI Points? Seems like you're just trolling for the sake of it. Let's see....

CANiK pistols are also the side arm of the Turkish military and Special Forces. Their TP9SF is NATO approved, e.i., they past NATO testing requirements, e.g., "60,000 round torture tests without any failures while still maintaining NATO standards for accuracy." Keep in mind that Turkey ranks 11th in the world in military power out of 145 countries and are routinely putting their firearms to use in conflicts.

CANiK is ISO-9001 and AQAP-2110 certified. An AQAP-2110 certification is a standard for quality assurance systems developed by NATO. This applies to all of the firearms they manufacture.

CANiK pistols are Glock, Sig, S&W M&P, Walther, etc. grade competition, duty, and military grade handguns. CANiK as a company and manufacturer is not comparable to Hi Point, Taurus, Ruger, etc. despite of their lower price point.

In the group where I shoot competition there are a couple of guys with the Canik Rival.

The Canik Rival is as reliable and accurate as any of the pistols on the line. I'm talking shooting side by side with match rated Walther's, H&K's, CZ's and custom 1911's.

We shoot a high-round count course from 25 to 35 yards. Generally 100 rounds at each session.

Canik is one of the best kept secrets out there.

My EDC is a Canik C-100 9mm. It's a twin to a CZ 75 compact. Hard to tell them apart. It shot dead on right out of the box. Never a problem with any brand of ammo. I did put thinner grips on it though. I don't think they make that model anymore but if find one used you won't be disappointed with it.

My bud has one. What you say is true. He would concur.

Is that a recommendation or a bit of slander?

I’d say neither. From what I understand slander is false and negative information spreaded to disparage someone or something. That’s truly and honestly my impression of them, which is what the OP was asking. If you like them , God bless you and enjoy them , they’re just not for me.

Just the general feel and appearance.

Yes, I could see how they look and would feel the same. They look very similar. You know know what else Canik's look similar to? They kind of remind me of Walther handguns too.

I have one Canik, a CZ-75 clone model L120, which has an aluminum frame. I also own a "real" CZ-75 Omega. The Canik is every way as well made as the CZ!

The only real complaint I have about the Canik is the magazine catch spring is ridiculously heavy. The Canik cost was about 1/2 of the CZ-75 Omega but gives up nothing to the CZ. The trigger is kind of heavy, but one of the features of the CZ-75 Omega is it has an excellent trigger, far better than the non-Omega CZ-75s.

The remark about Hi-Point guns was an extremely cheap-shot that has no basis in fact.

Well, okay then! Nice recommendation since I have a CZ 75 Compact and if I didn't I'd be looking at a Canik.

You may feel like it’s a cheap shot , but the fact that it’s based on is that’s genuinely how I feel about them.

Maybe the OP should have said , how do you guys feel about Canik, but only post positive things so that the people who like them don’t get butt-hurt. I’m not looking for honest opinions, just cheer leaders. Then I just wouldn’t have commented.
