Washington state woman calls 911 after being hounded by up to 100 raccoons

The woman reported having had to flee her property after 50 to 100 raccoons descended upon it and were acting aggressively,...

She told deputies she started feeding a family of raccoons decades ago and it was fine until about six weeks earlier, when the number showing up went from a handful to around 100.

"...If she pulled up her car, they would surround the car, scratch at the car, surround her if she went from her front door to her car or went outside at all"...

"This is a nuisance problem kind of her own making that she has to deal with," [Sherriff Kevin McCarty] said. Video from the sheriff's office shows raccoons milling around trees, and deputies who responded to the call observed 50 to 100 of them, he added...

Oh, if only everyone was as intelligent and informed as those on this forum about the ways and wherefores of wildlife. And the sheriff certainly displayed responsibility by apparently washing his hands of gthe whole situation. This despite the danger the animals might pose to neighbors of the woman.

What's that rule about let those who have not done a stupid thing in their lives cast the first aspersions.

Read the book " Rascal". Had 2 coons as pets when a kid, Way better than any dog or cat, smarter than some people I've known. Last one was a male that I let go " back to the wild" when he " became of age". After a snow he came back with his mate and young ones looking for food as their footprints were on our back steps. Came back several times later and was in top of his favorite tree in back yard. Tried to talk him down but no good.
This woman created her problem as coons as Very social and tell their buddies where the food is…..

I figure a GA boy would just eat them. Problem solved.

At least the lady wasn't feeding bears. Rocky was a flying squirrel, not a racoon. Wonder what the incidence of rabies is in that area? Also, is the critter indicated in post #12 meditating? Seems to be gazing at his/her navel.
