Sgt. Mike Viet Nam Humor

Gives new meaning to the phrase "junk on the bunk". The sun was shining so it was during the hottest months of the year. No sun during the monsoons, just a constant rain and cold.

We had to rake the sand every Friday. Seems like one of those "we need more discipline" tasks when we were already working 12 hour shifts. Fortunately they did not have hooch inspections.

We took showers in the monsoon rains. Washed our clothes in the rain and then stripped down and took a shower.

"The new Navy or is it the Coast Guard?? "
Only a Leather neck would come up with something like that.
Remember that it was Commodore Decatur lead the attack on the Pirates on the shore of Tripoli.....

But that was the "Old Navy". Iron men and all that guff. Now not to sure about all the services.

Getting ready for Halloween!!

I was in Naples five times during the summer of 1984. We were on USS Saratoga. When the Saratoga and ships in company came it the Shore Patrol had their hands full. The USS America and her ships in company came in to Naples for liberty after 5 months in the IO. Lots of steam to get rid of in those boys. We (Saratoga) pulled in a day after, we were not allowed to go ashore with the America crew in town for a couple of days. Imagine how much hell was raised and fights with 5000 sailors from the America could get into! Then throw another 5000 from Saratoga! probably a good idea to keep us apart for a few days.

I don't know about the other services, but the Army has this Flight Evaluation Board (FEB). If they prevail they can take your wings. To quote John Wayne, "A man's got to do what a man's got to do."

The Navy and the Marines had them too. Know a couple of guys that had to go in front of the board. Kept their wings though. But we were a small portion of the Marine Air Wings. Possibly 200 or so Pilots and B/N's carried the MOS's to be considered A6 aircrew.
