Do drug cartels and the mafia have contract killers? If those aren't hit men, then what are they?

That just might be part of your
membership agreement.
Murder, Inc got work.
Have heard the phrase, "movie theater quiet",
as a kid in NYC.

Drug cartels and the mafia are made up of killers, and the rank and file do their killings. Its just part of the job. No need to involve a contracted third party.

Doesn't "sicario" mean hit man? That's a pretty specific word.

Doesn't the mob and the cartels have designated "hitters"? Do the shot callers assign specific people to do the hits? Are those not hit men?

Didn't Gotti and Sammy use hit man to whack that boss in NY in the 80's?

I remember seeing a documentary on the history channel where the mob brought in "zips" from Sicily to whack some boss. The story was being told by retired FBI and NYPD folks.

I know there was a former Mexican Mafia hit man getting paroled in CA.

I'm confused.

The general consensus is that this was a standard semi-auto pistol with either a homemade suppressor on it that lacked a piston to cycle the slide, or the manual racking was intentional to keep the action of the gun quieter.

There's an *incredibly* low likelihood that this was a Welrod, B&T, etc. Pure media speculation not supported by the movements/action from the publicly revealed, blurry surveillance footage.

United Healthcare: Not a Welrod - YouTube

Ian "Gun Jesus" McCollum is one of the few people on You Tube whose opinion I would take over even many law enforcement types on this. He makes his profession dealing with these types of firearms and weapons so if anyone would be considered an expert opinion on this, he would be it.

There are certainly people who work for criminal organziations who do murder as required for business to continue. Call them what you want.

In the context of this thread, try to hire one of those folks to murder an insurance CEO for you because you have a beef with said CEO. Not gonna happen.

What doesn't exist is a network of freelance assassins who will take a "contract" to kill somebody for you. Only on TV and the movies.

Say you have money and a grievance against an insurance company. You want a CEO killed. Who do you call?

I did 25 years in the FBI and have friends and relatives in most of the alphabet agencies, some of whom owe me favors. I also know a lot of criminals including plenty of murderers. I would have no idea how to get a "hit man" to do a high profile murder, at least without going to jail in the attempt.

Believe what you want. I'm not going to change your mind.

I'm just asking questions.

Maybe the guy who got whacked was involved with the criminal element or some relative of a "somebody" was denied by the ins co. and had a negative outcome or something. Who knows.

Let's be honest, if you have enough money and connections, you can get away with stuff. Just look at all the folks on the diddy and epstien lists, or pardons for things that may or may not have happened over a decade- all protected by the .gov.

I could be wrong.

I would like to see a real Veterinary Pistol. I have seen captive bolt pistols and guns which use a blank cartridge, but never saw a purpose built bullet-firing pistol designed specifically for vet euthanasia use. I have seen conventional .22 rifles and pistols used in slaughterhouses, but I don't think they are allowed today at least in the US.

There are multiple links on this thread. Clearly you don't want to believe . . .

Many years ago had a friend that had many assorted " unusual weapons", one was an issue suppressed HiStandard. He lived on a small creek in town, would throw bread on the water and shoot the fish that came to eat. Got to shoot it several times. All one could hear was the slide cycling and a low thup. Over the years of our MG shoots in NC guys brought several suppressed weapons, fun to shoot.

The "traditional" version is that for a Mafia "initiation" you have to "make your
bones", either be the killer or be present at a hit.
I read lots of true crime books, most of these "hit man" cases either involve an undercover cop or a dopehead who does a botch job, leaves a trail of clues, runs off at the mouth......amuses me to think someone with at best a high school education, a brain fried by drugs thinks he can match wits with college graduates, people who have studied criminology, often have good people sense, are backed up by technicians in laboratories...
Or some James Bond wannabe who doesn't do his homework, leaves clues all over the place.
In "Underboss' Sammy the Bull Gravano discusses his first hit, admits he made a lot of mistakes.
"A shadowy network"of paid assassins-? The Catholic Church did a good job of covering up pedophile priests. If the stakes are high enough, if people can be discreet, are good at keeping secrets....
MANY years ago a college buddy and I bought some of "those" books, made our own silencers, most work OK, many worked VERY well, a little crude but for a one time use, and you can easily replace them.

A pop or beer can stuck on the muzzle of a .22 works real good too.

This is New York city with how many unsolved murders, homicides, assassinations, and drug killings. Oh, the victim was a multi-millionaire, multi-billion dollar insurance company executive, and deep pockets donor to special causes. His killer must be found. Forty-seven other murders were only recorded as unfortunate events for people who also had families.

United Health Care is the "worst insurance company" according to several people I know in a medical or insurance career field. An angry family member of a dead UHC client committed ultimate act of revenge.

The FBI is offering $50k reward and NYPD is offering $10k. I wonder if that's the same reward offered for "Bob" from Queens?
Also I think it's odd that United Healthcare hasn't posted a reward.
At least I haven't heard if they did.
