I've been looking for a 4" 625 for a while, and couldn't bring myself to buy a JM for the current asking prices. I happened across a 625-3 on GB with poor pics and not much bidding action, so I threw out a low bid and ended up winning the auction. Picked it up yesterday, and did a little rehab this morning...

The cylinder latch had obviously been bubba'd, and I had a replacement on order as soon as the auction closed. It actually beat the gun here by a day. Once I opened it up, I found quite a mess...

I spent about an hour giving it a thorough cleaning, and swapped the Pacmayrs out for the particular Hogue grips I prefer for round butt N frames. Cleaned up nice, and I'm looking forward to shooting it next week.

Pairs nicely with my 625-4 5"... :D

Fantastic! I love when a “risky” GB bid works out well. Sometimes you gotta take a swing. Looks like it cleaned up great. Would you mind divulging the winning bid?

I got my 1st and only (so far…) 625 5” this past summer, and am more than thrilled with it. Now you’ve given me impure thoughts about getting a 4” as well!

Nice score, that was on my watch list, but I got home too late to put a bid on it. Bad pictures by the seller is an understatement, two pics of a dirty gun doesn't sell much. Glad to see that it went to a forum member.

Glad we didn't end up 'competing'! The next one is all yours. ;)

I had a couple of 3"'s and a 5" for quite a long time before I could find a pre-lock 4". The 4" is definitely my favorite of the bunch.

Range report!

Needs one more slight sight adjustment, but I'm 100% happy. 18rnds of my 200gr SWC reloads at 10 yards, double action.

Certainly a promising group. What's your load? You might try the same at 25 yards. It will give a better indication of accuracy. I've found these guns to be quite accurate, at least with cast loads. Jacketed will likely do well, too. Good luck-

It's a light load, 5.1gr HP38, Missouri Bullet Co. coated 200gr SWC.

Same basic .45 ACP load I've been running in everything for 30+ years. ~780fps out of my 5" 625 and ~800 out of my 1911s. I originally used 231 until it got hard to get and then switched to HP38. Bullet varied over the years...

If ultimate accuracy was my goal, I'd do more fine tuning, but the load fits my needs for the kind of shooting I do these days. 10yds D/A rapid fire generally tells me what I want to know. ;)

I am a big fan of the 625.I have a 3 and 4 inch. They have a habit of shooting in the same hole.

Happened across the same sort of thing recently. A 625-3, 3 inch barrel, with the original Pachmayr grips.
The auction was nearly over, with no bids, quick discussion with the Missus (whose sole caveat was no bidding war), and I won the auction. Showed with some dried up oil residue the seller was calling 'rust', but isn't. Interior was all dried up and shellacked factory lube, still had the paper stickers on the frame. Eyes ain't what they used to be so the FLFFL/GS installed a green fiber optic front.
Here it is with a set of Grashorn smooth elk, couldn't find my T-grip, but ended up getting one from here that went on later.

And I had to see what it looked like with the factory finger groove combats that came with my 625 five inch

Insides weren't bad, hammer spring was tightened to the stop, so I backed it off to match the pull on my 5 in.

Fits great in my EPS tortilla that I use for the 22-4 TRR, just need to find the time, likely after the holidays to get it to the range and all dialed in.
