Introducing, Honey!

Honey is a...honey! Did you go through a rescue organization?…

Sort of. Herself is on the board of 8 different rescues so we are always aware of what is happening, not only locally but also in the Eastern US.

Honey was rescued from a puppy mill. The mill owner died and the widower was reducing the number of dogs he had to feed. We heard about it and I called to see what was going on. He had one old girl left he wanted to be rid of “…but she might have been bred…”. Of course she had been bred, you run a puppy mill. No, he meant she might be pregnant. The old man could not be sure if the males had gotten to her the last time she was in heat. Great owner. We went to she her and she was so skinny it was obvious she was not pregnant. She came home with us that evening.

They had been breeding her twice a year from her first heat. I was not happy when I heard that and I did nothing to disguise my disgust. The Amish puppy mills treat their animals better.

I am happy she is no longer there. So, is Honey. Or at least it seems so.

Honey has been with us three months now. We are back in Northern Illinois and she is a trooper. Not fond of us both being gone a portion of the day but she is doing well.

Her new diet, we feed raw, is compatible with het and she is now 50 pounds. Her coat is filling in and getting longer. And darker! When we first got her she was very light, almost a cream color. Now, she has darkened very much. I joke that since she is out of the milk shed, she is tanning!

Her energy level is in the clouds. Loves to fetch, chase and do thinking games.

We have been blessed, yet again!

How about a picture of Honey as her new self? :D

Here you go.

She does not stand still for very long. Here she heard a noise outside. A snowmobiles was driving across the lake behind the place we rent in Northern Illinois.

She has gained about 4 pounds, her coat is shiny and her feathers and floof are beginning to grow. And, she is getting stronger.

She has figured out that living inside is a good thing. If Herself or I sit down to read, do puzzles, rest, etc., we know Honey will hop into our lap before we are settled. She is on my right leg as I type this, snoozing.

She is responding to training and, as with all dogs, it is a constant thing.

We are glad she chose us to adopt.

Kevin
