Honey is a...honey! Did you go through a rescue organization?…
Sort of. Herself is on the board of 8 different rescues so we are always aware of what is happening, not only locally but also in the Eastern US.
Honey was rescued from a puppy mill. The mill owner died and the widower was reducing the number of dogs he had to feed. We heard about it and I called to see what was going on. He had one old girl left he wanted to be rid of “…but she might have been bred…”. Of course she had been bred, you run a puppy mill. No, he meant she might be pregnant. The old man could not be sure if the males had gotten to her the last time she was in heat. Great owner. We went to she her and she was so skinny it was obvious she was not pregnant. She came home with us that evening.
They had been breeding her twice a year from her first heat. I was not happy when I heard that and I did nothing to disguise my disgust. The Amish puppy mills treat their animals better.
I am happy she is no longer there. So, is Honey. Or at least it seems so.
