Well we have had a about week of seasonably warm weather. Staring tomorrow night we are going to descend to Arctic conditions. Temps will be down in the low 20s at night and returning to barely above freezing during the daytime for most of the week. Well they always said about Texas weather, if you don't like it, wait a day and it will change. That does not apply to the summer when it is always hotter than hot. Some philosopher once said, if it doesn't kill you it will only make you stronger.

The same could be said about our Mississippi weather. I would only use the term "Arctic conditions" as hyperbole. It has turned back to cold (for us) winter weather. July and August, with not only the heat but also the high humidity, can be brutal.

The problem here is that many homes and buildings were not constructed with these temperatures in mind. Additionally, some water pipes are buried just deep enough that you don't trip over them.

It might be that we whine about the cold as much as folks in the northern climes whine about summer temperatures above 100 degrees...

and still dropping

Yep, the good thing about cold weather in Texas though is that it is generally short lived and Spring is just around the corner

I am leaving to New Hampshire tomorrow to get away from the cold. At least it stays cold there not like South Texas where its 80 one day and freezing the next. The hot and cold change is what sucks.

I always smile when I hear somebody make that comment about how if you if you don't like the weather wherever they are at, just wait a few minutes/ days and it will change, as if it is unique to that location. I have heard that statement made in dozens of places across the country.

I was born and raised in San Diego. I always laughed at the people from "back east" who would move there and complain that there were no "seasons" in San Diego. "It's always 70 degrees year-round!", they'd whine. Somehow, that never bothered me or any of the other natives.

Then I moved to Texas. Plenty o' Seasons here! The most memorable was a three day period in February about 35 years ago. Day One: Overcast and muggy with a high temperature of 70, ending with precipitation. Day Two: Clear as a bell with a high temperature of 20, and an inch of ice covering everything. Day Three: Still clear as a bell, with a high temperature of 80. Ice was gone.

I still prefer the dull weather of San Diego, but as a gun owner, well...

The alternating hot and cold is supposed to make you tough and healthy. Only the strong survive. Some teacher mentioned something like that in elementary school.
