Jim Cantore just came to town

This is what happens when you piss off the Northern Nordic snow gods. Artic air sweeps down from the north to punish. Your dry road road driving skills are worthless, car handles snap off when trying to open the car doors and your water pipes freeze and burst. But even worse you have to wear long johns, hats and gloves.

Yeah, we’re just not used to this. We are hurricane people. Can’t really go anywhere without crossing water, and all the bridge- tunnels are blocked with accidents. But there are guns to clean, have a whole house generator if needed and plenty of food. The guy that owns the pawn shop where I work called and said stay home, he is, so I’m in good shape. This should all be done by the weekend.

Figure out what your latitude & longitude is and check out weather.gov. You can get a hourly forecast. Don't have the site up right now, but it's the far right hand top row choice. They've been much better than the local folks at predicting what we're gonna get it and when.

IIRC, you may be able to get lat/long while on the website. Been awhile since I did it.

We’re apparently doomed. This is not an area that normally gets a lot of snow. Predictions have been all over the place. Now expecting up to 12 inches which is major for us.

One of my best buddies moved over to Virginia last year, we talked just the other day. He said he was a couple of weeks away from getting his garden ready to plant, can't wait to give him a ration of road apples next time we talk. I was stationed at Ft. Eustis back in '69-'70, winters were wet and icy but snow was seldom seen. I do remember once chipping two inch thick ice off the superstructure of our old LCU in order to prevent it from turning turtle on us.

Jim showed up at the right time apparently. It started snowing here about noon and is supposed to keep going until 6 AM or so. It's now 23 degrees and this should be the biggest snowfall we've had in a few years here. Looks like 4 or 5 inches already but it's a light fine snow so accumulation may not be as much as with those heavy wet flakes. Still it's 6-10 inches predicted.

It's still coming down, we'll probably get close to a foot. For this area that is a huge snowstorm. They can't even drive in the rain down here without some accidents and they are not equipped with the proper snow removal equipment.

That's flurries and crummy plowing, not a storm.

My brother sent me a pic today from Central AR; the grass was not completely covered and the schools were closed. I can't even begin to express my opinion of that without getting a bunch of points.

When I was a kid living along Lake Ontario 2 feet of snow overnight meant that getting to school was annoying.
