J;

Welcome to the site.

Your revolver likely shipped from the factory in the October-November, 1944 time frame. It almost certainly was a Lend Lease gun.

Pictures might allow us to comment further.

Hope that helps you.

Regards,
Charlie

My dad has an old Victory and I would love to get more info on it. Is it 38SW or 38 Special? I'm told it was probably reamed back in the US after the war.

I recently acquired a Victory model ser# V653684. 38 Special, 4" barrel, smooth grips, lanyard loop and flaming bomb marks on the butt and under the barrel. All #'s are matching but no service or US property marks. When may have this been made?
I bought a repo shoulder holster and will probably give it to my Dad as these were what he carried flying out of Key West NAS flying in reconnaissance planes over Cuba from 3/60 to 5/61.

Sounds like a DSC gun from late 1944. The lack of US PROPERTY stamps and the serial number range make me think DSC.

Best,

A couple of questions, please. You state that the flaming bomb marks are on the butt and under the barrel. The latter location is anomalous. Are you certain that the mark under the barrel is a flaming bomb? Also, are there P-proof marks on the upper left frame, the cylinder face and the barrel underside?

S/N info? Maybe some history if known

I am looking for a production date - and anything else - about a Victory - V206313 - top strap marked US Navy. It's all original and numbers matching. It's in unreal condition so I am wonder where it's been (like a box somewhere for the past 80 years!?!?!)

Newly purchased Victory; SV 783075. All matching and looks new. Any info appreciated. Thanks in advance!
A photo would be really helpful in this instance, as it falls within a serial number range that encompasses both the fulfillment of government contracts and early postwar commercial production.

How is it marked? Is the top strap marked ð U.S. PROPERTY G.H.D.? Small "s" on the side plate? These things make a difference. Help us to help you.

Regards,
Charlie

I realize it's almost 3 months after this post, but this is another gun for which photos would be invaluable in making a proper assessment. Its "unreal condition" could be indicative of its having been refurbished at some point, and only seeing it can give an answer to that sort of question. As to a date, V204376 which is recorded as a Navy marked gun shipped in January of 1943.

I have a Victory V81011 that was cut to a 4" barrel and the cylinders sleeved to fit 38 Special by Parker Hale, with their classic ramped front sight, proofed with BNP and crossed arrows (sold out of service). The barrel still has 38 S&W marked on the right side. The number of people who will not believe that this was a Victory!! Dave_n

I inherited this S&W Victory from my dad. I remember him buying it from DCM (CMP) back in the 80's for $50...

Hello cdmcdoug:

Your Victory likely shipped from the factory in March or April, 1944 as a Lend Lease gun.

You will want to double check a couple of things. First, make sure that the cylinder has not been modified to shoot .38 Special as a number of these guns were so modified. Second, the ejector rod was blued when it left the factory. In the photo it appears to be parkerized, although that may just be the lighting. Finishes are difficult to judge in online photos. If it is not blued then that can be an indication that it has been replaced or refinished.

Hope that info is helpful to you.

Regards,
Charlie

Hello fourb20:

Would it be possible for you to post some pics of your revolvers? I am particularly interested in the back strap marking. Also, are the "British markings" you mentioned the oft seen post-war British commercial proof marks, or are they British military markings?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Charlie
