Talk me out of buying a Bodyguard 2.0 -

Just reading the comments within S&W M&P Pistols has me turned off on the Bodyguard 2.0.

Actually, I feel much more confident carrying my reliable Gen3 model 3953. Each to his own though.

If you're asking the question, I suspect you already have the answer.

This forum seems to be the only place on the internet I can find where this gun appears inherently problematic. I’m not suggesting that those reporting problems are being dishonest, it’s just that for every person who reports problems all over the interwebz, there’s usually hundreds or maybe thousands of satisfied people you never hear a peep from.

My BG 2.0 with a recent date of manufacture has been great. I did have to adjust the sight some to get it to shoot to POA, otherwise no issues at all with just shy of 300 rds through it.

So, I cancelled the sale of my BG380 and stayed with it as my current DC carry. I really liked the feel and comfort of the BG2.0, and also liked the idea of another two or three rounds being available, but for me the too-light trigger and concealment issues were deal-breakers. YMMV

I was down this road, got a BG1.0, when the P365 was just a scosh too big for pocket carry, much as i really like that pistol.
The BG1.0 was almost as small as an LCP, and I fixed it up with TruGlo sights. The long, double action trigger was like my Smith revos. It is an uncommon safe little gun.
Then came the BG2.0. Sorry, it's simply easier to shoot; yeah, the trigger is a lot lighter than the 1.0, but not uncontrollably so. Mine is around 5.5lbs.
Still have a 1.0, and a spare.

Wrong and wrong-er. No 9mm manufactured today is close the size of the BG 2.0. The P365 feels like a brick compared to it and I own both.

I’ve been carrying the P365 for the better part of three years- and I love it! But, after carrying, shooting the BG-2.0 it has pushed my P365 out of top spot for carry. My P365 is huge compared to the BG2.0

Today I fired another 20 rounds of Underwood Xtreme Penetrator Plus-P and another 20 rounds of Underwood Xtreme Defender Plus-P. My diminutive little BG 2.0 continues to defy physics because it is so light and so small, and it shoots like a full sized pistol! Not one hiccup! Very accurate and perceived recoil was very manageable. I’ve now fired 60 rounds of each of these loads with zero problems.

These particular Underwood loads don’t rely on a hollow points to cause tissue damage. They penetrate like ball ammo, but because of their design they can do a ton of damage- especially for a .380.

For those of you naysayers who prefer to carry ball ammo in .380 … the Xtreme defender Plus P’s send a 68 grain bullet down range at 1400 FPS and Xtreme Penetrators send a 90 grain bullet down range at 1200 FPS. These do penetrate!

Even if you could find ball ammo that could go this fast, they certainly wouldn’t do anywhere near the damage of these Underwoods.

It should be noted that the BG 2.0 is not rated for +P ammunition.

You have the velocities listed backwards between the 68 grain Defenders and the 90 grain Penetrators. Also, I tried four boxes of the Defenders, after removing the feed ramp humps polishing it and still got one or two hangups per box. Loading them with two flute downward seems to help the feeding problem, but until they run 100% and I have full confidence in them, I'll stick with Hydra-Shok Deep.

.380’s have been putting people down pretty well for a hundred years or so.

Yes, as did many other smaller calibers. I can still remember my grampa coming home from work. He would unstrap his Colt Police Positive .32acp and place it atop his refrigerator every night.

Me and gramps used to talk guns all the time when I was little, and I’ll always remember the confidence he had in his little .32acp (and his ability to shoot); he never even talked about any other caliber.

Well…. that doesn’t matter much to me. I’ve put enough of these Plus P rounds downrange to know they work in my BG2.

From here on I’ll mostly just practice with ball ammo and non-Plus P offerings. But… ll carry my BG2 with Xtreme Penitrator Plus P’s.

Not to sound pompous, but…. if my BG2 breaks i’ll just send it back to S&W for service. If they won’t fix it I’ll just buy another one.

I generally don't have a problem running +P, but the barrel on the BG2.0 is so thin, I question the wisdom of doing so.
