I have what I consider "business guns" bought for practical purposes and then I have my "just because guns."

I was doing some spring cleaning and had these out for inspection, dusting and lubrication. None of them were anything special, none of them have much practical use, none of the are range guns, and none of them were sought out, but just attracted me while trolling gun or pawn stores. Some of them could be used for carry, but they have been outclassed over time for serious business. I bet you folks have some too. Bring 'em!

The guys i shoot trap with...we shoot for fun. Lot of razzing lol!. A few yrs ago we made a deal we all bought the most horrendous shot gun we could find. Who ever was top gun had to shoot the next weeks round with the gun we voted on. I came up with a mossberg 200k with a rust seized c lect a choke. Thats my just because waste of 130$ gun lol!

I have done that with long guns too. I have one of the dreaded J.C. Higgins 583.18 bolt action shotguns that were recalled because of a problem with the bolt retention method that could cause a tiny screw that retained the bolt on cocking to shear releasing the bolt to hit you in the face. This screw/bolt was not to lock the bolt for shooting, but to retain it until it was cocked. I did a homemade fix that replace that screw with a hardened one, twice the diameter as the original and am sure that the nearly new condition shotgun is safe, and in fact I have shot it a lot. That is the gun that I would take to your event to see if anyone old enough to remember the recall had the guts to shoot it. ;)

LOL, our trap club does sort of the same thing, though just one shot for the top gun at the end of the season, with an H&R Topper that has seen much better days. Interesting to see people cringe when they learn they have to shoot it.

Yes, I think I'm also guilty. I bought a Crvena Zastava M70 just because they were pretty much brand new and cheap.

Mind you, buying what you think is a "just because" gun can turn up a nice surprise. At one extremely poorly run online estate auction, I bought what I thought was a Russian refurbed k98k just to get a representative WWII Mauser. What I received was a Yugoslavian refurb with an extremely rare combination of designator and repair workshop ID. Score!

Since I was a cop and people knew me I got firearms in package deals. I would be selling and a buyer would give me cash and his gun or whatever.

So I ended up with a variety of off brands but I knew I would be selling or trading them for something else.

I also got a lot of military surplus firearms at Gun Shows and flipped them for a nice profit. Unfortunately that internet thing came into existence and now you could find a good deal in a few minutes.

I am such a loser I bought two of the M70s. ;) You are right, they were NIB as far as I could tell.

As long as there are lazy sellers there will be good deals to be had. I bought a non-refurbished, non-import marked Imperial Russian Nagant revolver (1915) from a pawn broker to who wanted to get rid if that cheap "French" gun. I paid a hundred bucks OTD and he thought he had skinned me. I would not have taken advantage of an individual like that, but pawn shops are free game as far as I am concerned. He probably made $80.00 on the piece.

There are "using" guns -EDC, target practice, then there are "having" guns. For me, the latter include my U.S. Arms/AIG Abilene, my Mauser M1914 in 32 ACP, my CZ-27.

Walther TPH’s in 22lr, box and papers, just because the price was great. Actually great is undersell.

That actually happened twice. Still have them both with some extra mags.

And ONCE, a very old (pre 1899) S&W 38DA in absolutely EXCELLENT condition, with original box. I paid $150 at a garage sale. I sold it a couple weeks later to a collector who had a booth at a show for $600.

I guess mine would be my most recent purchase, last year. I took a notion to buy a little Keltec P-32 (.32 acp) pistol, and I actually like it a lot!

Tiny little pocket thing that's been 100% reliable so far with S&B and American Eagle fmj rounds, several hundred with several different family members shooting it. I like pocket carry and usually it's my M&P Bodyguard .380 (not the new 2.0, although I'd like to have one of those and will probably buy one sooner or later). I'd trust the P-32 in a pinch although it won't replace the BG.

My just because guns tend to be single actions. No plans to carry them. I'm not a cowboy let alone any sort of modern day rancher. They're just plain fun to shoot!

Many to choose from but this Flattop Blackhawk 44 Special is my favorite.

That is not a just because gun. All of the flattops are easy carry tack drivers. Yours in 44 special can handle the Keith loads, approaching 44 mag. Not insignificant, because it is good for carry, anywhere.

All precision shooting is done single action as it hunting, so no down side there. I do not have one in 44 special, but just might add one like yours.
