What N frame ejector rods are interchangeable with a Pre 29?

I recently picked up a shooter grade Pre 29 .44 Magnum and unfortunately discovered that the ejector rod is bent. Mine of course is the RH thread.

While I have managed to straighten it out some, it still is not right. I did find the new manufacture one offered by Jack First, however I would prefer to use an original ejector rod to replace the part. I have been looking at eBay and other online sources that I can find to buy a used original, however there are no listings for Pre 29 that I can locate so far.

Would an ejector rod from a Pre 28 or other N frame revolvers be the same dimensions in length and diameter?

Yes. Any N frame rod of the same vintage and barrel length should work.

I have been keeping an eye on the classifieds here and will continue to do so, and I have checked Numrich, but will go back and look again now with the knowledge you gave me. Thank you again for the help.

I also see plenty of previous threads now at the bottom of the page with this very question which also has helped in my research.

If you have a LGS close by. they should have the proper tools to straighten it. Hard to do without the proper tools. I would expect the RHT models are hard to come by.

Thank you smith17, but we now have an interesting turn of events, my extractor rod is a LH thread! It measures 2.869"

I guess that makes it easier to find a replacement, but I am really thinking that I made a serious mistake buying this revolver.

The extractor rod looks in good shape, not used much. I would be much more inclined to find someone to straighten it than to replace it. It has been fitted when made and a new one may be too long, although easy to shorten.

I agree with you, it is in decent shape, I have already tried to straighten it once, and I will attempt to get the last of the bend out of it.

It does make the cylinder hang up when I try to swing it out of the frame in a couple spots.

I really would prefer to have an original myself.
