22 Mountain Gun

Honestly, I like my full lug 617-6 with the 4" barrel. And that one was a stretch at $979. But then I've always liked full barrel lug guns. and the lock, I gave up on caring about the lock.

Before the 617 was made I started writing them for a stainless m-18 . Then came the 617 and yes I like the full lug ,but I still wanted that stainless 18. So I kept writing , then that first mountain gun popped up and like a lot of us we missed out. Keep writing requests and finally all of us now has our shot . Yes gold bead is a very high plus. I waited way too long so yes I’m getting one . I’m still going to keep writing for that same k-frame in scandium for us hikers/ backpackers. If you ever carried a full-size k or N frame in scandium like a 329 over multiple days knows . You don’t notice it! Thanks to all the letters everyone sent.

Too many Mod 18's and Pre 18's out there to want to pay $1200.
I have 18's and pre 18's CM.........I have 17's and pre 17's...................Still smarting from not getting on one the first run...............It's only $$$ and you'll make more of that next week...........Plus I've never saw $$$ in a casket.

What could a .22LR "Mountain Gun" possibly be? Sounds like marketeering hyperbole designed to separate the consumer from their money. Of course such a gun will sell out in minutes and every tacticool "operator" will explain to the unwashed masses why such an expenditure is necessary.

NO................It's very neat .22 that's desired by lots of of us.........BTW.........I have mountain guns in 4 other calibers....I like the style......Plus... They don't have that awful full underlug.
Iffen ya don't like it.......Don't buy it.......Plain and simple.

I've been as happy as anyone to see the demise of the lock, but that graceful pre-lock curve appears to be gone. Maybe they will bring it back as the forging dies wear out?

I'll continue to enjoy my new Colt King Cobra 22lr until the price chills out on these. I don't think that will be anytime soon though.
I also have the same Colt KC .22 (it’s great), and a Model 18-4 (my favorite handgun of many that I own), but I am going to be all over this new 617 like white on rice.

Yeah $1200 is a lot for a .22. But I would think it cost the same to manufacture as other calibers. Maybe more. They gotta drill 10 holes.

I love my Outdoorsman's, Pre M17 & 18's but the Mountain gun does nothing for me at that price. My newest S&W revolvers are 4 and 6 inch M617 ND's.

I like them all. Just wish S&W would pay more attention to QA/QC so we could be reasonably assured that the product we're buying actually functions as it should. Not just S&W with this problem. Even though I like them I won't be buying any - have adequate substitutes for all and just don't need the hassle of QA/QC problems.
.
FWIW,

Paul
