I had to have my two month old 637 warranty serviced. The hammer was offset hard left causing the hammer to strike the frame, shearing off the aluminum, and causing permanent damage to the frame. After six weeks I've taken receipt of the pistol and they replaced the hammer, trigger, and "repaired the yoke". I wasn't aware anything was wrong with the yoke but I guess there was. Lastly, they refinished the frame. Now here's the deal... since they refinished the frame and not replace it the damage is still there. But now it's just refinished. Take a look below at the photos and tell me- would you accept this on a $500 pistol?

It’s an imperfect world.
$500 isn’t all that much money anymore.
Even with your pics blown up 2X, it doesn’t look like anything I’d complain about.
I'm gonna put 100 rounds down the pipe today.

Yes. Shoot it and forget it if the damn thing works and it's accurate. Lucky to get it back in working condition these days. Hell, with loser UPS or Fed Ex it could have easily been "lost" in the mail.

Well, that's just crappy warranty work, IMO. Should've been swapped out for a new gun.

I've seen pics of Beretta 92s with all sorts of issues after their move to TN. One owner was told he had to "live with the finish erosion" that he sent it in for. Barrels being off-center in the slide, rough chambers, horrible triggers, etc.

My guess is, Smith is trying to crank out 100% production passing their QC & then cranking it up another 10% just for fun. Yay.

Thankfully, none of my Smiths have issues.

Loser UPS?
That was a bit harsh.
I’m retired now, but I worked hard at UPS for 43 years. Like at S&W, and society as a whole, the people at UPS are not be the caliber they once were. However, the really good people at UPS far out number the losers. Occasionally, a thief manages to get hired at UPS. I saw it once at our little center. The cops took him away in handcuffs. Calling everyone at UPS and Fed-Ex a loser is more of a reflection on you, than the honest, decent, hard working people in delivery.

Replace a whole gun because of that little nick?

Perfection in everything is a frustrating endeavor, to say the least. That’s a 1% imperfection on a possession that is 1% of your life. Let it go.

The quality of many current production S&W revolvers has certainly dipped dramatically. I've read numerous Posts here on the Forum with pictures showing shoddy machining, poor finishing, and lousy QC inspection. It seems that much of this poor work is associated with stainless steel revolvers, but may also affect blued revolvers. Imperfect world or not, we should not accept substandard workmanship as the norm...whether we're talking about revolvers or automobiles or kitchen appliances. Quotas and sales should not supersede quality. The most "modern" S&W revolver that I own is a 2015 Model 686-6 Plus, and I'm fortunate that it's a very well made and finished handgun. If I was shopping for something more recent, I'm afraid that I'd be looking at one of the new Colt snake guns and not S&W.
