.38/44 Outdoorsman, S71815, was sent in 2010, to Hamilton Bowen for conversion to 45 Colt and installation of a Keith Long Range front sight. The stocks are by Sanderson. The revolver was sent by Bill Powell, well-known collector of Smith & Wesson and Colt firearms (deceased). I acquired this revolver in 2010 shortly after it was completed by Mr. Bowen.

Beautiful revolver.

Hamilton is retiring at the end of this year, he stopped taking new work June 1. A great loss to the custom revolver world.
Dang. I just talked to him about a Ruger/Anaconda build in 45 Colt. Thankfully, for my wallet, Colt released the Anaconda in 45 Colt again. He does beautiful work!

Is this substantially different than a 25?

These are the kind of conversions that make perfect sense to me, using a fairly common "donor" gun and reworking it to something the factory doesn't make, or made in low enough numbers to be extremely difficult to obtain. Sorry to hear that Bowen is retiring, but we all get older and his body of work will long outlast him!

This .38/44 Outdoorsman, serial number 42121, was one of three OD's (including Doc44's 45 Colt) sent by Bill Powell in 2010 to Hamilton Bowen for conversion. 42121 was converted to 44 Special and also received a Keith Long Range front sight. The magna stocks were crafted by Keith Brown. A Registered Magnum hammer was added at some point either prior to or for the conversion. I aquired this beauty in April 2021. Doc44 graciously provided documentation to accompany this fine example of a Bowen conversion.

Beautiful guns by Mr. Bowen posted by all of you.
My only Hamilton Bowen is a Model 58 converted to .44 Magnum and styled like a Wolf & Klar 44 third model. I like to think of it as my S&W "Super Duty ". Stocks by Roy Fishpaw, courtesy of Doc44.
