The 40 is not that weak. I'll stick with the 40. I don't need and have never felt the need for a 10mm. But have a couple friends who swear by them.
you poor thang , you just can't get over the fact that the 9mm only better than 380 acp .The literal reason 40SW exists is to be a watered down 10mm.
I like bears. Lived among them for 19 years. Had a face off with aa 500 pounder one night each of us on one side of galv. 33 gallon can of dog food. He kept taking the lid off and eating the food. I told him to get back and leave so he backed off about 2 feet. I put the lid back on the can and of course he got right back in it. Soooo I got a 357 (Ruger if it matters) and put a shot right beside his left ear. He went back in the woods about 30 yards or so. I got back in the sack, a few minutes later I hear bong, the lid was back off. So I talked him out of the can again and put another shot by his ear. Bears really don't like real loud noises, like a 357 at 6 feet. we went throught this drill about 3 times and he went off in the woods out of sight. Ten minutes later I hear him comming back from another direction so I again put a shot by his ear, he crashed off away and he didn't come back after that.Bears...the answer is bears.
There doesn't need to be a +P .40S&W, it's already there, such as 165gr. FMJ-TC at 1,150fps making 484fpe - 9mm can't touch that. The 2015 politically motivated FBI decision to dump the .40 after a positive 28 year run was pure, near-post Obama DEI inspired. Even if the 9mm were any better, that only means the .40 is better still, and there was simply no practical, certainly no ballistic reason to squander billions of tax-payer dollars to drop the superior caliber for the lesser caliber. Of course we could not have known back then what we know today about what was going on behind the scenes in Washington.Loves me some 10mm, hate the .40.
Let me say first, I'm not a reloader. I have been told that there's no such thing as +P .40. Someone correct me if I'm wrong there.
But I've also been told that there's room in the 10mm loadings to safely run up the velocity a decent bit.
When I shoot steel plates with one of my 10mm guns, the plates react a LOT more violently over both .45acp & 9mm. In short, they're just wicked, wicked fun to shoot reactive targets with.
Some people laugh, but the carbines run flawlessly and quite accurate.Hipoint makes both pistols and carbines in the 40 S&W.
Unfortunately the civilian gun communities have been refusing to accept this as a reality because they are afraid that by admitting it then their choice of caliber is invalidated. John C Boomer bought all of his pistols in 40SW back in the 90s and 2000s and he's spending $25/box for ammo at his local fuddshop. If he admits that the mainstream calibers are all virtually equal then he's admitting he's been wrong and we know that Americans don't know the concept of admitting wrong.Modern, scientific method terminal ballistics show there is surprisingly little difference in stopping power between the popular handgun rounds on human like creatures. On larger, tougher animals heavier, non-expanding bullets' enhanced penetration can be advantageous.
You have to get into high velocity rifles or brute force like shotgun rounds* to get a reliable increase in stopping power.
*Not so much for small shot.
I realized a long while ago that guns are basically pacifiers for most gun nuts. Let em have their caliber arguments, let em have their liberty safe full of 1911s, Sigs, AR15s, and mags. They will never use them. They buy them for the same reason suburban women buy an ecoboost bronco. It satisfies their imagination while the manufacturer gets rich. Policeman carried .32SW Long and .38 Special revolvers for decades.Ah, good ole caliber wars. I find these rather DUMB. Some of the toughest people this country ever produced carried handguns weaker than a .380, yet you can't be a man if you don't carry something that starts with a 4, all coming from a generation that wore feathers and bell bottoms in their youth.![]()
Some would say that's an argument that began when the .357 was invented. Seems like it continues today?
However.
I offer two examples of why a larger, harder hitting caliber is a good thing.

Absolutely disgusting spectacle of a human being. Good luck lardass, if you ever need emergency care even 2 EMS techs won't be able to put you into the vehicle. Barf. DonSome would say that's an argument that began when the .357 was invented. Seems like it continues today?
