I decided to try some Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black touch up and it made an improvement. Did not try to eliminate the turn rings just the wear behind them. Here are the before and after pictures BTW the front is simply reflection of the lamp lighting.

Regarding the wear you're seeing on the cylinder: what you're describing does sound typical, especially with the Cerakote finish. Cerakote is designed for durability, but it can show signs of wear a bit differently than traditional bluing. The marks behind the circle rings are often just a result of normal use, especially after a few hundred rounds.

I am not a fan of cerakoted finish. I do not think a gun with several hundred rounds should show that much wear.

How much Holster carry does it have?
Have thought for a while now it ain't shooting that puts that much wear and tears on handguns,
It's carrying them around, especially in holsters.

I also think it's a lot of wear for 150 rounds. I've only carried it twice so not coming from holster wear.

After receiving my photo Smith and Wesson Customer Service still claims that the cylinder wear is normal. That's kind of disappointing for a revolver that cost $1,299. I wrote them back and told them that and asked it there is anything they can do to remedy the issue. Not holding my breath.

Heard back from S&W. Nothing they can do under warranty. If I want to pay for a new finish the wait time is 3-5 months and it's on my nickel. End of story. From here on I'm just going to shoot the snot of out of it. Will never buy a cerakoted revolver again.

I have always thought that Cerakote was just another sales fad. Back in the day, everyone was on the Cerakote train, but not me. I have never liked it. Now, it seems it is not as durable as everyone thought it was—just my personal opinion.
My preference by far is stainless steel. I've never owned anything that was cerakoted. Anything blued steel I expect to see wear in time.

All of my other revolvers are polished stainless steel.
Looks like abnormal wear to me. A few more range rounds and there won't be any coating left.
Like everything else, there's varying degrees of quality & endurance, etc.
I've read they've shut down, but Robar & their Np3 finish was all the rage for several years. I saw it used on a lot more semis, so the wear had to have been tough, or it wouldn't have been popular, IMO.
Despite my decades long subscription to Am Handgunner, I don't know which shop is quality & which is not these days.
All finishes have their shortcomings. Nickel scratches easily. Chrome will flake off in spots after a period of time. Some solvents are hard on both of those as well. Matte SS is drab looking, bluing will rust if not taken care of. Parkerizing really looks drab.
So......... What does one do? I dunno, I buy them as they are & then clean them & leave them alone for the most part.
