In Search For The Perfect Grip For J Frame RB

If I didn't have these Fitz J & K frame grips already, I'd contact Herret's. These work well for me and can be found on estate sales, ebay, etc.. The wood grips work better, but these plastic type duramites are good.

These are the stag style, they come in all black and other colors too.

I got my Eagle Secret Service grips, ebony checkered and they are fantastic. I have them on my SS 637 pre-lock no-dash and the checkering is very comfortable and should help stability when pulling that long DA. They are about the same size and shape as the stock S&W Uncle Mike's hard rubber boot grips. I may have to get a couple more.

I did the same as Headknocker and cut down a set of the rubber grips that come stock on the 640 (Uncle Mikes). I have them on my 340PD. They are now about the same length as boot grips, and work fine for front pocket carry.

For me, I need the extra trigger reach they give for my large hands. With these grips I can control the gun with full power .357 loads.

You can make these grips by grinding them on the side of a bench grinder wheel. The rubber grinds right off, as do the steel inserts inside. I did the same with the grips on my 640-3.

One of these grip manufacturers needs to make a boot grip with a covered backstrap..
They'd sell plenty & make a profit..
They feel realy good too, That extra bit of reach realy helps with these hard recoiling little snubs..

Well I gave up on my WTB ad. I called Craig Monday night and ordered 3 sets of K RB with checkering... $300 and a 3 to 5 month wait!
He just finished up a run of K's and said that they are back on the bottom of the list

BTW, IMHO the perfect grip for a J or K is a Hogue Mono Boot Grip!!!!!!!

I found these grips for my J frame CCW piece and have been very pleased. The rubber grips that came on the gun originally tended to hang up when rubbing on clothing. This could be a problem when having to draw for defense. So I went with these wood grips. They don't have the clothing grabbing tactile feel to them that the rubbers do and they draw quickly and smoothly. Plus, they're black and they look cool with the wood grain the checkering and the S&W logo.

If you reload multi calibers and shoot alot of different types of guns from revolvers to autos I don't think there is a problem with a carry or defensive gun of any type. With that these two are constantly with me.

Try Eagle Secret Service and have them made up in something black.

Try a set of the standard Uncle Mike's J-frame round butt grips. They're longer than the boot grips, and cover the backstrap. I won't use anything else on my Js. They control recoil well, point naturally for me, and aren't so large that they compromise concealability, even in a pocket.

You might also consider a cheapie Uncle Mike's #3 pocket holster. Works well and shows less than any of the better grade of pocket holsters.

+1 on the Uncle Mikes and what Shorty posted!!! They not only control recoil to a very comfortable level, but also bring the sight picture up naturally by covering the backstrap. I find myself having to lower the barrel with all open back S&W grips when shooting to properly bring down the front site.

They also will not chew your hand to pieces as checkered wood grips do to me when shooting my hot carry loads. You can get a set on flea-bay in the 25.00 area.
