Found a NIB 2 1/2" Model 19-5

OK guys, I have been a member of this forum for less than three months. I had one S&W(4" 586) when I joined, now I have three! Might have to get a part time job to support this habit, or at least start selling some autos. Anyway here is my newest addition. I was planning to use it for my CCW, it seems to be the perfect carry gun. I purchased a Don Hume holster model 715 "inside the waist band" with belt clip (the same holster I have used for a 380 that I have carried for years) but the M19 seems to sit very high on my waist making it a bit harder to conceal than I had hoped. It sits in a very nice postion for accessing (probably the way it is supposed to) but the grip makes a bulge that wouldn't be so noticable if it was lower. I know the best way to find a good holster is to try a bunch of them but I have found almost no K-Frame holsters in stock at local gun stores. As it was, I had to order the Don Hume. If anyone can recommend an inside the waist band holster that might be what I am describing it would be greatly appreciated.

I know the feeling. When I started here I had one revolver adn within months I had over a dozen and had sold off all of my semi-autos.

But a snub M19 round butt is a very nice find my friend. Congrats! I use an Uncle Mikes IWB neoprene for my M65 snub.

Great find. The trouble with IWB is the cylinder has to be below the belt to set lower. Many use the Summer special or off takes. I use the Galco Summer Comfort, it is made for 3" but works well for 2.5". In reality a high ride pancake conceals just as well and is allot more comfortable. I saw a 2" nickel Model 19 recently. Guy wanted $600.00 for it. I am debating about buying it. I go into a dozen gun stores in a month and don't see anything I want, then see 2 or 3 guns I would like the day after a very expensive car repair. I am curious what you payed for it? Hope you don't mind me asking. Thanks.

You won't do much better for a carry gun than that one.. I carry the same gun almost every day.

I use a Milt Sparks VMII for IWB and a 5 Shot Leather SAP for OWB.

Those are about as comfortable a holster as I have run across in many years of looking.

I got mine a long time ago before the waiting lists got so long.

You might take a look that Bell Charter Oaks Holsters. I can't think of the owner's handle on the forum here, Danged CRS has got me, but he is a regular poster here and his stuff looks to be first rate.

He has a couple I have been giving some serious consideration. Got to sell a couple of cows and give him some business.

I carry my 2 1/2" 19 in a rt hand Blackhawk IWB. I'm left handed and carry it almost horizontally on my back.

Thanks for all the opinions. I think the "Sentry" from Bell Charter Oak Holster is closest to what I need. As far as the price of the gun, I paid $625 for it. I know, kind of steep, but it was the exact gun that I was looking for. Well worth it to me.

Don't feel bad, you can't buy a new gun, for that price, that will be as nice.

I have a Blade-tech IWB, the "ultimate concealment", for my 3" M13. It holds the gun much lower than my Don Hume paddle does, and it conceals perfectly. I have had susch good luck with Blade-tech holsters, I have one for each of my main carry guns. The best thing about them is you will get it in less than 2 weeks, not the 6-9 months of many of the big name leather makers.

I was unsure about the Kydex at first, but now I find all of my leather stays in the drawer, and I am always wearing the Blade-tech holsters. Leather is still my prefered ammo holster though.

Do you gentlemen who carry the 21/2 to 3'' K frame 357 magnums carry them with specials or full 357 magnum loads. I have a 3' M-65 that I can shoot real good, have never shot any of my 125 Federals in it.

I carry my identical twin to the op's with .357's in it. My speedloaders are also loaded with .357's. However, depending on the attire for the day, I carry Bianchi Speedstrips in a front pocket. Those I load with .38's because I also tend to carry a j-frame .38 often. The little speedstrips disappear in a pocket and since they have the .38's in them I don't have to think about which gun I have.

Hi, Nice revolver. There is something about shooting a magnum round in one of those K frames that just makes you feel great. All the young guys wil laugh at you at the range but when you out shoot them they will stop laughing. People that shoot revolvers on a regular baisis are generally better shooters.

He's right. Shoot it, take care of it and it'll go up in value.

I highly recommend 158 gr. Speer Gold Dot's for SD. Never shot a person with the round, (thank God), but rolled many a ground hog with excellent results.

Nice piece.....You might want to change the stocks after you shoot a few boxes of .357 thru it though. I changed to the Pachmayr presentation grips real quick after cutting my right thumb!

Very nice gun and a great gun to carry. Wish I still have mine! I would however, check the old threads here for a discussion on using high velocity 125 grain .357's through the gun. You might want to consider staying with the heavier weight bullets.

High riding OWB works...

I also like the K frame snubbies and have two model 19s and two model 66s in the short barrel length. Regarding holsters, I would agree with the previous posters who said that a high riding pancake holster is just as good as IWB for concealment of this gun, and a lot more comfortable.

I use a Price Western Leather (PWL) pancake for my K frame, and it works just fine.
