In the thread on Enya, someone posted that some of her songs make good funeral music. Here are some of my favorite funeral services, the music being quite impressive.

Is there a particular song that you want played when you pass along? A somewhat macabre theme, but some services are so impressive that I thought I'd offer these.

Watch for just a moment as the minister speaks, then you'll hear, "In the Mansions of the Lord.", one of the finest hymns of its kind, I think.

The military pallbearers will then remove the coffin of Ronald Reagan from the sanctuary to the motorcade.

I've left written instructions that I would like to have Beethoven's Sixth Symphony (The Pastorale) as recorded by a good orchestra played at my funeral. To my mind, its the most beautiful piece of music ever penned, and covers the emotional gamut of life itself, from extreme joy to crashing tragedy. For those who might remember, the movie "Soylent Green" featured the music at the end-of-life sequence.

I hate organ music! It is always so sad and somber. I been to too many funnerals. Taps always gave me the chills more than anything. Fortunatly most my old family that died were deep christians and actualy their funnerals were a bit more upbeat as the way we were taught, death was a promotion. (I still want to take my time though). When I go I want the song by Danny Gather played "Just because he lives" of the older Bill gather trio.

Pie Jesus - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Tv5gBa9DQs

Pie Jesu, qui tollis peccata mundi
dona eis requiem
(Merciful Jesus, who takest away the sins of the world,
grant them rest)

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi
dona eis requiem sempiternam
(O Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world,
grant them eternal rest)

My favorite funeral music is somebody else's.

Beat me to it, Bob.

It's like a line I heard one time where someone was asked, "what do you want them to say when they see you laid out in your casket ?"

His reply, "Look ! He's moving !" :p

I'm going to a 16-yr-old's funeral this afternoon. Killed by a drunk driver. Kate was a remarkable young woman. I'm afraid that there's just nothing that I'd like to hear. :(

"In My Life"by The Beatles.

There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends
I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
there is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

The Final Call at the graveside for a fallen officer was the saddest moment I have ever witness at a funeral.

I attended a Funeral where the procession was 7 miles long for a Leo who was killed while on duty. I was fifty yards back from the grave and after Amazing Grace and Taps were Played Dispatch called the officers number three times.

Then dispatch said the officers number again and he is 10-7

As we walked back to our units hundreds of officers were wiping tears from their checks and If they were like me had a lump in their throat big as your fist.

I have requested SRVs Life by the drop.

Hello there, my old friend,
not so long ago it was 'till the end
We played outside in the pouring rain,
on our way up the road we started over again

You're livin' a dream, wo you on top
My mind is achin', Lord it won't stop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop

Up and down that road in our worn out shoes,
talkin' 'bout good things and signin' the blues
You went your way, I stayed behind
We both knew it was just a matter of time

You're livin' a dream, wo you on top
My mind is achin', Lord it won't stop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop

No wasted time, we're alive today
Churnin' up the past, there's no easier way
Time's been between us, a means to an end
God it's good to be here walkin' together my friend

You're livin' a dream, wo you on top
My mind is achin', Lord it won't stop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop
That's how it happens, livin' life by the drop
