I've been going to the same old fashioned barber shop since 1971. He just told me he's closing shop at the end of the year. How are the national chains?

Most of the time my wife cuts my hair. She just use`s a pencil sharpener.
A friend told me the other day that he doesnt pay for a haircut. His barber charges him a "finders fee".

What is this "hair" of which you speak?

Tim's on MLK (9th St No) in St Pete.
The barberettes all wear T-shirts that say "don't you wish your barber was hot like me?" Cheap hair cuts for cheap old fat guys.

Cut my own. Wahl clippers using no attachment.

Once a week while taking my morning constitution I also cut my hair. :D

I remember the old barbershop, getting my flat top and neck shaved with a straight razor and the brush on the neck for the fallen hair. I stopped going years ago and started cutting and shaving my own head while on the job. I buzzed my head for 25 years until the day I retired. I told my wife I'm not gonna cut my hair for the rest of my life just because I was forced to for all that time. Now I'm sporting my ponytail !
I attempted the beard but I looked like the Geico caveman and it itched like crazy.

My alias say's it all
The little that was left, get's it with a razor :D

When I was a kid in the 1950's the neighborhood barber charged $1.00 and didn't expect a tip. Due to union rules he never opened on Mondays. Now I get charged $12.00 and I usually leave a $3.00 tip just to make things even. They still close on Mondays just for traditions sake. Union is caput.

I have a great uncle that is the local old fashioned barber. He has a red and white pole out front, playboy magazines on the waiting chairs, warm foam, straight razor, and dum dum lollipops for the munchkins. He does a good job and doesn't charge family a dime, luckily he considers me family. He also is located maybe a couple hundred yards away from my house. Even with this great resource at hand I choose not to get my hair cut from him.

I go to one of the "salons" down the road and pay $12 plus tip to some twenty something girl that looks great and smells better enjoys running her fingers through my hair. Some things are just worth $12 plus tip.

I explained my situation to my uncle and he understood 100%.

5 years ago a "good ol' boy" cut my hair for $3 or 4 in an old time barbershop-jokes and girlie magazines.Where my grandson first showed an interest in females at age 5.He died and now I go to a shop with one guy and several nice looking women.$12.
The magazines are another thing entirely-they are directed to
the female clientel with articles on having multiple orgasms and how to seduce your lover and having him in your grasp.I am too old for that!
I keep dropping off Handgunner,G&A,Amer.Rifleman and Gun Week Newspaper.Somehow they quickly disappear.

I don't remember what a haircut cost when I was a child, but I remember paying 75 cents as a young adult and everyone thought it was outrageous when they jumped all the way up to a dollar. Our little town once had three old fashioned barber shops and all are long gone. Now it's either drive 15 miles to a neighboring town for a 7 dollar haircut in a genuine old fashioned barber shop (and those barbers are getting old) or go to the local hen parlors (with no Playboy to "read":) and pay 15 bucks.

My wife does 3 out of 4 for me. Years back I was recovering from a wreck. I decided to grow a beard as I couldnt on the job. When I was to return to work I thought just once in my life I want to get shaved by a barber. I played heck finding a barber to do it. After aids got to be a threat none will shave you anymore.
I finaly found a barber to do it. It really turned out to be one of the best treats to myself that I ever had done. This guy knew what he was doing. After hacking my full beard off, he put wet towels in a microwave and put them on my face. Then he shaved me with a straight razor. I got my regular haircut in the deal. Generaly I have always hated haircuts since I was a boy, but this turned out to be the best treat of my life.
Once I got talked into getting my feet done on a dare. Pedicure? The shave was far more pleasurable. I think barbers are missing out on a huge money makeing sideline by not offering shaves anymore! Sounds dumb, but once you ever got one many wouldnt have a problem paying $30, $40s or so for the full treatment! AND, I am cheap! I didnt need to shave for the next 4 days or so.
