blocked from bidding on GB

After reading this, I'm kind of glad I just hit up the local gun shops to do my shopping for guns. I may never find neat old guns there, but at least an honest question doesn't turn into a thread on a forum. At least not that I have ever seen.

I've bought on GB but have not sold there. But have sold on eBay on 2 powerseller accounts for 14 years. The item for sale is the sellers until a sale is completed. A seller is totally within their rights to refuse to sell/ship to anyone they choose.
Myself, I would have answered the question short and to the point, like, "As described, NIB" (or whatever applies)
Would I have blocked? Maybe.

It is the seller's auction, and his prerogative who he sells to. AND, it is the bidders option as to who he buys from. I routinely ask questions just like Jack asked, just to see if the seller would even respond, or if they did, how they responded. It has simplified the process for me. The above situation would be a "no bid" response for me. It keeps it simple for me. JMHO.

I have done the same thing as haris, some people will try and buy something for a price then be dissatisfied with it upon receipt. To save me and you the hassle why not nip it in the bid right now. I find nothing wrong with what the seller did, and would have done the same thing had I felt that way.

Blocking me was very wrong and unfair, I have good feedback and never have had any problems with any of my GB purchases.I am disappointed in the lack of responce from the seller, its not only rude, but also very unethical. The seller is Haris 0208 and he has a lot of items for sale He appears to be running a business, but here it is, the next AM , and I still haven`t heard a word from him. I caution you- my fellow forum members-to be careful if you ever deal with Haris0208.

jack oconnor; There is nothing offensive in that thread said:
It doesn`t feel rightly legal to refuse to do a transaction with someone for some unspecified reason. I certainly don`t think its fair or ethical.
[/B]

This is the Smith and Wesson forum to disseminate knowledge,buy/sell guns and accessories, learn wealths of info in all the threads, show off your new stuff or your treasures!! Its not the place to lambast a fellow member because you dont LIKE what happened on another site.

I have a damn good rep here and on Gunbroker with 1350 feedbacks. I was willing to let bygones be bygones till it got personal. well I wont attack back but I will comment . After I read this I became depressed, jumped out the window and survived when i mistakenly dove out a ground story winder :D:D

Let me point out the bolded parts of the thread starters comments: I am rude and unethical; fellow members need to be careful of buying from me on Gunbroker;its not legal ,fair or ethical to not sell to him!!!! Oh really, when did it become
a law that I cant sell to whomever I please?

Bottom line Jack Oconnor: Time to move on, get over it, I will unblock you , and give you a makeup handshake !! Lets end this venting

No Contact From Seller

Blocking me was very wrong and unfair, I have good feedback and never have had any problems with any of my GB purchases.I am disappointed in the lack of responce from the seller, its not only rude, but also very unethical. The seller is Haris 0208 and he has a lot of items for sale He appears to be running a business, but here it is, the next AM , and I still haven`t heard a word from him. I caution you- my fellow forum members-to be careful if you ever deal with Haris0208.
I know you have probably attempted but you note that this seller had a large volume for sale, is there no associated website he is can be contacted at ? These days I actually look for sellers I am able to contact via phone (lost art to most) as it enables you to have a conversation if necessary to feel out how you feel about him or his business. The amount of sellers through the past few years has shrunk for me as I would rather pass on a good deal than to regret my gut feeling.
I think in your case it is just a fluke so move on and find another deal. I occasionally find deals on both GA and GI both fixed priced sites. I especially favor GA where I just picked up a M66 2.5" S&W in 95% condition for $500. The deals are out there, they are just far and few between. Good Luck

Man we all know what prices on Smith and Wesson revolvers and third gens have done. I could have bought that 2-3 grand gun for 500-700 dollars just a few years ago so now for me to even consider paying 2-3 grand for it, it has to be mint. No scratches, no pitting in perfect condition. I have several guns that were 500-750 a few years ago as well and now are in the 1800-2000 range (last auction prices). The sellers do not dictate these prices it is the buyers. The buyers who pay the prices for these pieces, the supply is limited the demand is high so a seller can be picky as can a buyer. It was the sellers prerogative to do what he did. I do not think I would whine about it on a message forum.

Some sellers refuse to deal with buyers who do not have a track record of a certain number of buys with positive feedback. The reason for that is often someone new to the site will not know what they are doing and it can be a royal pain in the rump to walk them through it after the auction is over.

I have dealt with new buyers and while I have never blocked them I totally understand why some people do. They have often not read the rules of the site and they more often don't read or don't understand the conditions of the auction. I spent countless hours with two such newbees that I sold guns to, and after that I cringed when someone bid on one of my auctions if they had zero or just two or three buys.

There was also one guy who had the wrong address on his file. Duh! It was for a holster not a gun so it was mailed directly to his address, after I sent him an email asking him to confirm his address. Duh! The package I sent had a tracking number on it which he never checked on. About two weeks later I get a message from him where's my holster!

When I finally figured out what happened I waited until it returned to me and I sent it to his correct address. It was his second purchase and he moved since his first one and evidently could not read either. It could have been understandable if I had not sent him an email asking him to confirm the address before I mailed it to him. Unbelievable. He was clearly a product of the wonderful California public school system.

A really busy seller or one who sells a lot on GB would not have the time to deal with that kind of idiocy.

This is unfortunate. Both of these Forum members are good fellows, who I've had an opportunity to correspond with or to back-and-forth with on threads, and they both strike me as the kind of guys I would enjoy knowing in person.

Now they've gotten cross-legged over a non-Forum issue, and that's a shame.

I'm sure Jack did not realize when he mentioned the seller's ID from GunBroker that he was talking about a Forum member here.

Likewise, I think Haris is entirely entitled as the seller to conduct his sale the way he wants, within the rules of GB.

I hope they both can let bygones be bygones, and that the rest of us who chimed in before the identity of the seller was known, can understand that this was a private matter until names were mentioned, and then it unfortunately became more "public" among our membership.

No harm, no foul, and we've all learned in the process that GB has features we might not have known about before. I know I have been informed by this thread myself.

I wonder , Is it possible to just delete this entire thread? I AM ready to end the discussion, and try to forget about it.
thanks to all who commented both for and against.
Jack

Jack,

PM the Big Ape or one of the lounge moderators listed at the bottom of the Lounge Forum. Deleting a thread can be done.

This statement is so unlike me. I've enjoyed this thread, don't get me wrong, I can see both points and I have remained quite neutral but I enjoy sitting in the corner watching all kinds of debates between two parties be it in a seedy Memphis beer joint over a bet, in some golf course parking lot or even on the internet but let me and my 60 years of living make a rather profound and somewhat thought provoking statement.

Ever notice how two strangers that get into a little disagreement about something often wind up to be the best of friends. I know it's happened to me.

You two need to PM each other a year from now, you'll probably wind up laughing about this.

I watched this unfold and knew who the players were.

And I'm a GB virgin.

This S&W world is kinda small. Add the forum to the mix and user names and it didn't take much to figure it out.

I guess we all learned something or two. I hope.

I am blocked from bidding on GB as well for using the Tor browser to log into my GB account. They sent me a nasty message about ToS violations that I had no idea I broke, simply by using an anonymous browser to log into a not anonymous account . To hell with GB.

Same thing happened to me. I was using VPN on my laptop, I travel alot and use public networks at hotels and such.
I was a member for many years with close to 200 perfect transactions.
Got banned, didn't even know what the guy was talking about. He refused to hear me out.:rolleyes:
Now I hawk the classifieds here.:D

I'm blocked by GB!

I bought guns off of GB for years but never sold any.

Now that I'm officially old I decided I need to cut back on my collection so I got on GB and started through the registration process for sellers.

When I got to the part that said they were going to charge me a monthly fee whether I was selling or not, I stopped and tried to back out.
I thought I had, but they started emailing me monthly saying I owed them money and I was locked out until I pay up!

My emails have been ignored.

Apparently, they are making so much money they don't need my business. That's OK, it seems every other business under the sun as well as the government wants all of my money, anyway. Haha

I wonder if it is really the seller or is it GB that blocked you?

GB has never charged me a monthly fee and I have been listed as a seller for 7 or 8 years. I have not sold anything in a couple of years, but I am still eligible to at any time with no monthly fee. They do send a monthly statement, but all I have ever been charged for is the commission on actual sales.

I've known the seller personally and professionally for quite a while, and he is fanatical about the accuracy of his postings, both here and on GB. He operates as a business, and as such does not have the time to answer questions which he thinks are unnecessary, or buyers he feels may be difficult to deal with. I feel certain that he was simply being businesslike, in his own best interest, and there was nothing personal. That is until he felt that his integrity was being impugned. JMHO.

Actually since this started,Jack and I have exchanged messages and e mails and there is nothing adversarial actually its friendly so
you are right on!!!!The one on gunbroker is sold . I have a second one . And the gun that he wanted, I just happen to have another one so instead of bannning him again , i will offer it to him exclusively!!!!

YEP, STANDARD PROCEEDURE

If you e-mailed him back and asked if he was intertested in a lower than posted price, you are out. I have had that happen twice to me. HOW DARE YOU THINK you could get his weapon for less than he wanted for it!!!!!! GB= pig in the poke for a high price

GUNBROKER IS NOT THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN, BUT ITS THE BIGGEST---NO MATTER WHAT THE HATERS SAY. JUST AN OBSERVATION……….

Biggest isn't always best. My experience with GB hasn't been a positive one. I won't do business with anyone who compromises my credit card information.
