My favorite shrine, I never fail to go there ifI am nearby. They were a heroic Band of Brothers and their story should be told much more in schools. I fear that there will be attempts to tamp down the signicance of The Alamo.
I am proud that Travis and Bonham were South Carolinians.

I was stationed in San Antonio for a short time back in 71. I visited the Alamo several times and it is truly a sacred place.

Good Post. Thank you for reminding us.

I remember the Alamo as 'The shrine to Texas Freedom', and was more than happy to remove my hat on the hallowed ground.

I've been in the Alamo twice, and it does feel like a sacred place. It was, of course, originally a church. But became hallowed ground in Lincoln's Gettysburg terms due to the sacrifice of those brave Texans.
